This is for Fat Sully's/Atomic Cowboy (they have many names here), happy hour/dinner. We love the food, drink, and atmosphere at this place. Their happy hour is very reasonable and a good deal, and they include craft beers on the special, along with some food items. The bar area is a huge square (with an elevated area on one side), so the odds are good you can snag a seat. They are not a "sports bar," but have 2-3 big screens that they will take requests on for golf, big games, etc. So, the place is great. But, we haven't even talked about the burger yet. And, I will tell you, it is the BEST burger in Denver, hands down. When my wife goes out with friends to a meal, I beeline it here for the magical burger. My wife and I went in the other day, and weren't eating, and the WHOLE bar were people eating the happy hour burger. It is simple and not overcomplicated with unneeded ingredients. It is a double patty, special sauce, and cheese pretty much. It is mind-blowing, friends. You will be part of the burger cult with us once you try it. The Sully's Fries are delicious, but don't get them with the burger, as you will fill up. Highly recommend, inform the masses, and see you there (once you get hooked on the burger like everyone has).
MY MOST RECENT VISIT: As self-appointed Captain of the Lights Out Burger crew, I once again had a fantastic experience on my last visit. Today. The pizza is fantastic, so you should consider getting that too, and I am sure the rest of the food is great too, but the burger is the best in Denver. The bar area is great and spacious, they have three TV screens with sports perfectly separated and able to view, and the music is always in sync with the demographic. The loaded fries are also awesome, the pretzel things are perfect, but, once again, the burger is my specialty. I always get two Rare Trait IPA's, the burger, and Taylor was once again my bartender. Flawless service, flawless burger. Definitely recommend, and see you there...literally.
November 2024: So, as Captain of the Atomic Cowboy Burger Club(self-appointed, not vote), I realized it has been a minute since I have commented on how their burger is the BEST burger in Denver. My wife cooks for me. The moment she says "I am going to eat..." wherever, my car is already turned on, ready to go to Tennyson. It is a double smashburger with simplicity but fall of your chair taste. I live my life by hot sauce, but wouldn't want to insult this burger. So, I don't. Ketchup or mustard? Please. Not needed. I love, love, love this burger. I have had the pizza, and it is solid also. But, back to the burger. I will shout this from the mountain tops. Best burger in Denver, and I have cheated on Atomic Cowboy and tried others over the last few months. I read the Westword lists. I drive far away from my house. Nothing close. One final thing. The service. Whether you sit on the ground level of the bar, at a table, or on the upper area where you see everything, whether you get Taylor, Kyle, Jake/ J/Money (lol), Sarah, etc., your service will be flawless. Sports will be on the three TV's. Don't go there FOR sports, but know you can go there and still see what you need to see. Trust me. Just get the burger, which is amazingly more economical than any other burger in the city (please don't charge more, but you should). Anyway, great place, get the burger, and...
Read moreThis review covers five different visits to this location, ordering from both Fat Sully’s and DBC.
Overall, my experience with DBC has always been more favorable than Fat Sully’s. The price points for the offerings of both restaurants are indicative of the quality which is one great thing. Not a fan of restaurants that have high prices and low quality.
Employees always kind of seem annoyed that anybody is asking for their help. Haven’t been able to pick up orders through the slice window past couple times I’ve come either which doesn’t help.
The slices are decent and huge but nothing particularly special. Okay prices
The single burger is decent for $8 mondays, but heavily loaded in sauce and the pickles are a bit too thick for a burger. Not a huge fan even at the low prices and point.
The Nashville hot sandwich is consistently great flavor with the absolute thinnest piece of chicken ever. You open the box and it looks like a very large sandwich with a thick patty, but the breading is far thicker than the protein. Super crunchy, almost like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. Given it a couple tries because $12 is a price point I could be happy paying for a great chicken sandwich, but this fails to satisfy.
I’ve gotten the Lola and the Ellsworth from DBC, with Nashville hot on the Ellsworth and every time, I’m happy to pay the $15-17 price for such an indulgent sandwich. The fried chicken never has the same issues as the sandwich that Fat Sully’s offers. Chunky pieces, not pounded and spread so thin. The biscuits themself are always massive.
After checking out this location a handful of times I think I’ll really just be coming for a biscuit sandwich once every now and then to satisfy...
Read moreCame on a Thursday around 1:30 pm. Solid NY style pizza. Awful NY style pizza joint.
Genuinely this is some of the best NY style pizza in Denver. The crust, sauce and cheese are on point as it relates to the classic NY pie.
However, the pizza offered by the slice in classic NY is not properly done in the traditional NY way. It does not come fast. Be prepared for them to take at least 15 minutes to make the pizza with the toppings you requested (I ordered a simple slice of pep) and cut you a slice from the aforementioned pie. There are no regular pies ready to be heated in the oven with your toppings of your choice, as is commonly done in NY. Also, you cannot walk around with your slice - a criteria specific to the NY slice. The cut is too large and unmanageable, even after folding. Lastly, a single-topping slice is NOT cheap. It was over $20 for four slices - three pep and a plain slice.
One major tripping point is that menu is not readily visible. There is a small QR code next to the order window which leads to the website of the neighboring biscuit company. We had to ask for paper menu and we’re largely unprepared to order quickly. Lack of a visible menu made for a lengthy discussion about topping offerings at the slice window, jamming the ordering process and lengthening the wait for pizza.
Our slices came stacked in a box separated by paper. The slices underneath the top slice all stuck to the paper on top, pulling up much of the topping (see photo). A classic NY slice is on top of paper and a paper plate.
Although the NY style pizza is very good and true-to-form, the to-go slice window is a painful experience and offers nothing similar to...
