I grew up in the L.P. of Michigan and a period native son. However, I'm not a "Upper," and as far as I'm concerned, this was the original fast food of my childhood. When we'd drop my Dad off for his shift at the auto plant outside of Detroit, my Mom would stop at a local pasty shop and buy a bag of these treats from heaven. They were very inexpensive at that time. So she'd buy extras and freeze them for later. Folks! those hot pasties would perfume the car all the way home. My sister and I would often if we were good share one during the drive back home in the backseat! It didn't get any better than that! Those were very happy and special times. Recently, and by happenstance, I was thinking about those nostalgic pasty treats and times--which prompted me to search for a pasty restaurant in Denver. SCORE! Pasty Republic came up in my search and I've been in heaven every since. This place is located at 41st and Tenneyson, in the up and coming trendy Baker neighborhood. Another plus! They have an unimaginable choice of pasties, breakfast, and desserts, and are all to-die-for. The "Miner," "Caretaker," and "Peach Cobbler," are my favorites. I wish my sister were here in Denver to take a nostalgic walk with me and experience the heavenly joy of Pasty Republic. Folks this is plain and simple good eating! No foo-foo hipster tapas...
Read moreWe stopped here for a light lunch one nice Colorado day. We have had food from their food truck in the past, but this was the first time we stopped by the brick and mortar location. The pasties are always good here, so you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. If you haven't had a pasty before, you just have to try one! The pasty is like a hand pie with all sorts of filling options. We had a steak and potato one, which they call, The Miner. The filling is generous, and the sauce is a perfect consistency to hold everything together and add another layer of flavor. The outside pastry is a good balance of flavor and texture. These can be a little messy, but not frustratingly so. I believe they also have some sweet options, but I have only had the more savory items so far. Their place is small and quaint. You choose your pasty, pick-up and pay all at the counter. Inside, they have several small tables and a few high top seating options looking out on Tennyson. They also usually have a table or two set up right outside. It was a lovely day, so we enjoyed our pasty while watching everyone walk by on Tennyson. The staff are friendly and helpful, so it was a wonderful experience. We would feel confident dropping in...
Read moreWe grew up with family in the Michigan/Wisconsin region and have a great love of pasties. So we were extremely happy to find this place. These are, by far, the best pasties I've ever had in my life. We dropped ~ $100 to pick up a good amount of pasties (they have a buy 8, get on free deal, btw). I've had or sampled the Miner, the Shepherd, the Stout, the Joey, and the Caretaker. Each was absolutely perfect. The seasoning is done just right (not too much, not too little), they are absolutely filled with good stuff, and the crust is perfectly crispy. I was expecting some of the to miss or be off, but we haven't had a weak one yet. I, personally, thought the Joey sounded disgusting. My son decided to get it, but couldn't finish the whole thing. I helped finish it off and it. Was. Amazing. Not really my style, but I'd totally eat it again. I also talked to one of the guys working there and it sounds like they are happy to do custom pasties as well (just give time for them to pick up ingredients and build it). I'm big into Indian food and asked if they'd ever thought about doing Samosas. They mentioned have made chicken vindaloo pasties in the past! Truly awesome place! Will definitely be frequenting it and highly...
