On Friday, March 5th, I decided to give Corvus Roasters a try. It was my first time visiting the establishment, and I soon learned it would most definitely be my last. Disclaimer: I am deathly allergic to all tree nuts with the single exception of almonds. I do not have a dairy sensitivity but something about an almond milk chai latte really hits the spot, especially as a Friday treat. I was looking forward to the simple luxury of a coffee out before a meeting so I neglected to study the menu before ordering what I would have previously believed to be a clear and precise drink. I am positive that I am not the only one who would assume that an almond milk chai would mean JUST almond milk. The barista did not mention any kind of nut milk mix being used whenever I placed my order. I took one sip of my chai on the walk back to the car and had a violent reaction. I started to go into immediate anaphylactic shock. How could this have happened? Did I suddenly become allergic to almonds?? By the time I made it home the reaction had worsened to the point of a 911 phone call and epi pen injection. My entire Friday was consumed with an ER visit, during a pandemic, all because of a nut milk blend.
We went back the next day, they said the menu mentioned it was an almond cashew blend. There was little to no remorse or sympathy from the employee we spoke to on Saturday. I truly was surprised for their reaction to be so nonchalant but gave them a chance to "reach out" after I left on Saturday, like they promised. Typically when I walk into a coffee shop I already know what I want to order. I didn't look at the menu that day, because a chai latte with almond milk would never in my mind include cashews. I would expect the cashier or someone who works at the coffee shop to mention the almond cashew blend since it's not your normal almond milk variety. Again, we are in a pandemic so lingering around to read the menu line by line does not seem like a great option. I strongly recommend either you change the menu item name, or remind employees to specify that other nuts are in your "almond" milk. I am a contract employee, so not only did I gain a pricy ER bill, but I also lost an entire day of work. I want to help prevent someone else from this costly mistake. I hope the establishment will add more signage to help make the customer aware instead of assuming they will read the small "milk alternative" font on the bottom...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW Changing this to 4 stars from 3 stars because of ownership response to my original review, and the fact that my review was more about my preference in coffee flavor. So 3 stars was a bit unfair. ————————— Ok the place/ambiance is cute and good enough to work from and meet up for coffee dates, however, their coffee is just not good.
I don’t know if people just love acidic, sour or fruity-tasting coffee or if people who come here order iced teas and hot chocolates. Because the coffee is not it. If you’re like me, who loves the rich and bold distinct coffee bean flavor, then don’t get this coffee. Because it is SOUR - which likely means their brewing process was not thorough and under-extracted. People who say they love this flavor, actually don’t and just drink it with a bunch of milk and ignore it to get their caffeine high.
I was ecstatic to see their regular coffee was Colombian beans, thinking maybe their espresso drinks are the only ones that taste fruity and sour, but boy was I mistaken. That $7+ (including tip) small iced coffee did not taste like a Colombian coffee at all, and it was too sour and acidic that I couldn’t taste the bean flavor and couldn’t take any more sips after one. Sometimes I can handle a few sips from other tangy flavored coffees from elsewhere but not this. Highly acidic coffee is often associated with high quality coffee and I literally have no clue why. It’s not good for your stomach and may cause bloating, acid reflux or heartburn. I gave it to my husband because he has a stronger stomach than me but he unfortunately felt the same way and couldn’t drink anymore.
Sorry, I’m not try to being mean to Corvus, this is just observation and facts. They have nice a nice coffee shop ambiance but just get a tea or a hot cocoa if you don’t want to taste this...
Read moreI have loved coming to corvus in the DTC since it opened but man have things changed since. It's WAY too crowded here now at almost all times of the day. The coffee is amazing and I'm a huge fan of how they're making their own pastries now. But I will say the reason for writing this review is some of the baristas. I have to say before though, MOST of them are awesome and they do a great job at educating and chatting and making it enjoyable but unfortunately in a place like this it really only take one or two to just put a sour taste in my mouth about the experience. The two baristas I had this morning just seemed completely unhappy to be there. The one at the register didn't even bother to say hello or barely acknowledge I was there while taking my order, gave me rude looks, left halfway through when I was talking, and when forgetting about the pastry I ordered didn't bother to say anything, just shoved it in a bag and handed it to me then turned back to her phone. This is very disappointing to say the least, I've worked in the service industry for many years so believe me, I get it, there are days you just don't feel like being at the job but you still have to try your best to give at least a halfway decent experience to the customers. And further, it's not the only time this type of interaction has happened with this...
