My wife and I went here for dinner last night. The place is very nice with very comfortable booths and chairs. Service was good but there are some significant down sides that will keep us from coming back in the future.
The food was average(for the GVR area) at best. We both felt like all of our food lacked any real flavor. We had chips and queso, al pastor tacos, and a combination plate with a chili relleno and tamales. A little salt would have gone a long way.
I've seen several reviews that mention the bar but they don't have their liquor license yet and didn't have any alcoholic drinks yet. Hopefully they get that soon.
The biggest issue was the prices and hidden fees. We were shocked at how expensive this place is. Our bill was almost $60 for our pretty basic small meal with no drinks(just water). On top of these high prices they charged us an automatic service charge of 19.44% which we never saw advertised anywhere. I don't mind tipping well and probably would have tripped more than what was made "Mandatory" but it should be a choice and be based on the service given. Also who came up with $19.44%. What a weird random percentage. AND on top of this they also charge an extra fee for paying with a credit card.
I really wanted to like this place and have a decent Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood, but I'm not going to shell out this kind of money for average at best food. Honestly the On the Border Tex Mex in hotel lobby across the street is better food AND significantly cheaper.
I'll keep an eye out to see if the prices come down and the hidden fees go away before I'll give it a...
Read moreVery disappointing. We were wanting to go to Urban Sombrero. We had not been in Denver for a couple years and drove where we always knew Urban Sombrero to be. It turns out that it is now El Patron. We decided to try it after glancing at the glowing reviews. The first thing we noticed was that chips and salsa were not provided like every other Mexican restaurant in the entire world. No condiments of any kind on the tables. They spent way too much money on the enormous menus. Be sure to read the small statement on the front of it that mentions that an 18% gratuity is added to all orders. I ordered the green chili plate ($20). It was okay. While not as pretty as this place, I would suggest Chubby's if you want green chili. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito listed on the all day breakfast page ($9) and even pointed to it. The waitress apparently put in for the breakfast burrito on the burrito page ($21). Imagine our surprise when we received a bill for $57. Sadly, I had not read the "See, it is written right here on the front of the menu" statement regarding the mandatory gratuity. The worst part is that when we left, we realized Urban Sombrero had simply moved about 2...
Read moreCame on a Sunday with the wife to have brunch and watch football. Soon after we recieved our drinks they started blasting the mexican club music. I got charged $30 for each entree that was $20 on the menu. The server who did not soeak english well & did not explain the steak was extra for each individual item on the combination plate. I wanted a ground beef burrito and recieved steak. This place is over-priced as it is and they want to charge more. Even the tipping (that is automatically included in the bill) is too much. Dont come here unless money doesnt matter in your world. Brunch for 2 was $100. Ridiculous! Service was sub-par. Food was not that great. And the atmosphere was horrible. I do not recommend this place and will not be...
