My husband and I went in for the first time ever on March 4, 2023. I ordered the Crab Roll with the Lobster Bisque, he ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy with fries. We also had the calamari as an appetizer. To start, the calamari was pretty oily and we were never given napkins or silverware until the main course came. My husband's fries were so oily that they were almost translucent and the shrimp was very rubbery. This upset my husbands stomach and left him running for the bathroom quite often. I ate my bisque first and it was ok, not memorable. I took one bite of my crab roll and noticed that the "crab" had a very strange texture and taste. It was terrible. I quickly realized that it was made from imitation crab, which I am allergic to. I asked the waiter if it was imitation crab and he told me that it was 50/50. 50% real crab, 50% imitation, because when it is all crab it smells too fishy...What?? that makes no sense. After that I let the waiter know that I was allergic and all he said was, "I will pass that message along to my manager". Probably 10 or 15 minutes later, the waiter showed up with the bill, with my sandwich removed from the bill, and said he would be right back with our free appetizer. Keep in mind that the restaurant was not busy when we were there at 3:12 p.m. Not once did the manager come to make sure I was okay or if I was having any issues from ingesting the imitation crab. Why wouldn't ANYONE come to make sure I was ok out of concern or at the very least to make sure I wasn't going to sue the restaurant (to protect themselves). Even more prevalent, why isn't that listed on the menu??!!! I doubt that I am the only person in the world that is allergic to imitation crab. How does a free appetizer make up for the fact that no one, including the menu, let us know that the crab roll is not really crab?! What would anyone have done if I had eaten more of that sandwich and had a very severe reaction? .... "Oh, here's your free appetizer or up to 16 oysters". Well thank you so much! That totally makes the allergic reaction totally worth it. So generous and kind (sarcasm!). If I were the manager, I would have been over there IMMEDIATELY making sure the customer was okay, I would have comped (sp) the whole meal, and apologized. Instead this manager got an attitude with me when I asked him if he really took the sandwich off of the bill. It was really an all around terrible experience and we will NEVER go back to another Hook and Reel again. It will never be worth the 45 minute - hour trip to get there. We live in the very rural area of Keenesburg, CO, that is why...
Read moreI came in today for my birthday with my friends that I’ve raved about this place too from my past experience. We get there and I was excited to see you get a free half pound of shrimp. We sit down to eat and I place my order 2 clusters of dungarees crab cluster, 2 pounds of shrimp (head on) my favorite, half pound of crawfish, 2 corns, and boiled eggs. A big order for myself and I was so excited been waiting months just for this. Food comes out and it was 1 cluster of dungenees crab, 2 pound of shrimp (head off), half pound craw, 1 corn and 1 boiled egg and one of my friends was missing a half pound of crawfish. I stayed calm and just told the waitress hey this is wrong and she took it back to fix it. She says since it’s wrong she will give me a discount. I think no problem that’s great. My friends begin to eat. My food takes so long to come out that I don’t get it till they are done. She threw the extra crab from the mistake bag (cool) but it took so long I get to eat 1 crab cluster then we have to leave because 3 of us have work at 8pm. I’m pretty upset like I said it’s my birthday and order a substantial amount of food for myself alone. I would think there would be some thought to hey let’s get this right. I had to ask for a togo box 3 times, a bag twice and when the check came there was no discount, and added extra half pound of crawfish. We had to fight tooth and nail to get the discount added and the crawfish taken off just to leave. No urgency, no help. Really screwed my birthday dinner up. Then I get the half pound of shrimp that’s free for my birthday and the sauce and the heads are off. Shrimp with the head on is my favorite thing. The one thing I’ve been looking forward too. The cherry on top was my friend went togo use the bathroom and got stuck on the toilet with no toilet paper. I went around ask for help to get him toilet paper and had to just start looking through cabinets myself just to find it to give it to him. It was just awful and mind you this was not a busy packed night. I just wish things could have been handle smoother and easier and just needed some help. I’ve been excited for months tell my friends about this place and how I love only to come into this today. Instead of excitement I got “man I’m so sorry this is happening and I’m sorry they are doing this from my friends.” Just...
Read moreThis is the second and last time I will be coming to this establishment. It started when I walked in the door, there was no one there. There were two other people in front of me. When the person finally came to the front she didn't speak to anyone she did quietly say was "oops sorry". She then proceeded to seat people. When it was my turn she didn't speak. Let her know that there were going to be two possibly three people. She looked at a table, grabbed up the menus and started walking off, she didn't say right this way or anything, I didn't know if I was supposed to follow her or not. My wait staff which was Rhea was great! She was very helpful, friendly and funny. The food on the other hand was horrible. I ordered the crab balls and chicken Po Boy. As far as the crab balls go, thank goodness for the crab inside, because the outside was bland. They could be really good with seasoning. This is supposed to be a Cajun restaurant I think they forgot this. If you're a Cajun restaurant you're food is supposed to taste like Cajun food, and it did not! I lived in New Orleans for 2 and a half years. I know what Cajun is and that's not it. As far as the Po Boy, it had no flavor, it was dry there was mostly lettuce on it, one slice of tomato cut in half, and some kind of drizzled sauce on it. That was it! You know most of the time when you ask to speak to a manager, and I wasn't going to complain, I was just going to make a suggestions, the manager is usually willing to come out and talk to the customers, but in not in this case. The waite staff ask him to come out and speak with a customer and he flat out told her to tell me he wasn't coming out and to just took the poor boy off my bill. It's fine though they just lost a customer and I will not recommend this establishment to anyone I know. So, unless you just want to go in there and get drinks or order the expensive seafood plates, I'm not recommending this place. Since I only had 2 bits (small ones) and 6 sweet potato fries, I was still hungry and had to leave and go to another place and order food. And unfortunately, the person that was with me was from out of town and wanted Cajun food. And they weren't...
