We ate here with my 90 year old dad. He LOVED the food! Dad has always been a home gourmet. The fact that he asked how to order take out for future orders is the highest compliment he will ever give to any chef. Lol but seriously. I mean it. And he has a good palate, so trust me on this .
The mussels and the broth was perfect. Nice and a bit lemon-y. The other items were also well made. The Caesar salad was an honest to goodness real caesar with anchovies as it should be made, the dressing was sublime and creamy.
I wasn't crazy about the tartine - ordered rare and they cooked it correctly, but i was not blown away, but then again my sister ordered it haha.
The service was excellent ! Our server (is that the word nowadays?) was attentive, considerate and pleasant. She had a spider tat on her forearm.
Loved the food and service, but I want a more luxe comfy, banquette setting . The ambiance was too cavernous and chilly for my taste. Not chilly temp -wise, that was fine. I mean all mod and stainless and so on which is , sadly , the trend in all new architecture all over Denver . I dislike it mostly because caverns are loudas the reflect sound. This makes hard to hear.
They do this to make places sound more full than they are ( in most cases). This, in turn, encourages people to drink and eat more bc it is a communal party. Clearly. Like pumping baking cookie smell out at a mall by the food court-- we are smell lemmings !
I imagine that the atmosphere is warmer at night but then we wouldn't be able to hear a thing. Now a days architects forget we older people who often have a ton of money to spend by the way, cannot hear in these cavernously huge, loud clash-y restaurants, so we don't go at night. This stance by restauranteurs has never made sense to me!
In France, where elders are respected , this is not the case. Oh, and we are the ones with all the savings and discretionary...
Read moredinner 630pm 10-21-23 Nice weather --got seated on the patio Dinner with friend and business associate We were promptly seated by very congenial hostess. We then waited for thirty minutes to receive our menus and to order some wine. In that time, we were served twice by the water waiter. He said he would find a waitress/waiter. In frustration I went to the bar to order a glass of wine for myself and an nonalcoholic wine or beer for my associate. The bartender then asked why we didn’t order from the wait person. He even commented that he noticed we came in a while ago. He then informed me; they had no non-acholic beer or wine. I then ordered - salad niçoise and a tartare de betterave -( beets) My friend ordered the bouillabaisse. When the bouillabaisse arrived the wait person spilled about a half cup of soup on the table( about a nine inch circle of soup on the glass table top), and proceeded to set the plate and bowl in the spilled soup, never attempting to wipe it up. The soup tasted plain and lifeless. I have had better in a can. The salad and beets arrived. The beets had no beet taste or beet flavor. The salad was chopped finely with little or no taste. I t seemed to be prepared and setting in a refrig for days. So, I asked for some salt and pepper – not at the table. When I trying to dispense some pepper the whole top of the pepper shaker came off. The waitperson said it’s not supposed to do that, and she left. So, I slowly scaped the pepper off each part of the salad. I am familiar with good French food since I lived in London and visited Paris frequently. Le...
Read moreFour of us went here recently to celebrate an elopement recently. I arrived early and the hostess and the server both acknowledged the elopement and how they would help us celebrate. This amounted to receiving two complimentary flutes of champagne...for the four of us. Firstly, this assumed that we drank alcohol (two of us don't, a 3rd was pregnant, and the other has had issues with it in the past) and also felt about a bit rude that we didn't receive 4 flutes to have a proper toast. This was the only thing done to honor the elopement, which felt a bit of a letdown after the comments from the hostess and server eluding to being treated more specially. The server was nice but for this type of restaurant, I expected more engagement and communication about the occasion and interaction in general.
We got the rack of lamb, french onion soup, the Nicoise salad, and the gniiri. The Nicoise salad was plain and without the tuna, was just lettuce and a few pieces of veg - not worth the $30 at all. Did not try the soup but it looked far too rich with oil/butter. The gniiri was decent but there was not much to it and the cashew halves were burnt and the veggies were scant; this also was not worth the amount paid. The lamb tasted fine and the veg was seasoned well, but the carrots were underdone and hard. The options for vegans are minimal - just one entree.
Overall I would definitely not return here. Overpriced, sloppy, and average at best. This is the place you go if you wear your sweater around your shoulders and you're bored of the...
