I visit this location at least 2-3 times per week. I love their prepared food selections, the baked bread selections, the eclectic crowd, the outside seating, and the location. I was very disappointed with my most recent visit so I decided to write this review in hopes that it will be addressed. Problem #1: I ordered an iced coffee with water. This is probably the easiest drink to make. I waited 15 minutes for someone to notice that I had been waiting for a while and that I had been skipped over many times. When the employee finally asked if I had received my drink, not only did they repeat back the wrong drink order, but they also looked like they had forgotten to put in the order. When my drink was finally made, it took 45 seconds. Problem # 2: I purchased the seasonal kale salad and as soon as I got to the car, I noticed that it needed dressing. I opened it, took a bite, and tasted nothing. I walked back in and requested a small side of dressing and was told “it’s 50 cents”. Now, for anyone that frequents Avalon and knows how steep the prices are, this isn’t an issue at all. In fact, I would have paid more for the dressing. The problem that I have is that there was an older woman in line in front of me, (the second time I was in line waiting for the dressing), that had purchased the same salad, and because she had purchased it before, knew that it would need extra dressing. The employee handed it to her, smiled, and said “no problem”. The inconsistency is a huge issue. I’m not going to throw around accusations about why this happened, but I will repeat that this shouldn’t...

Let me start off with an O.M.G. the flourless chocolate cake was phenomenal! The coffee brownies are also a WOW! The Brioche pecan Julia Child cinnamon bun got an O.M.G. too! But all their savory items I'll pass on the broiche w/ham etc.(for the price to have something reheated I try to avoid). Parking can be tricky if you arrive during their peak hours to give enough time to find parking during those times. Their bread(for me) is phenomenal I enjoy the Pumpernickel, Rye(without seeds) and the rye marble, if you're expecting a fluffy light bread you'll be sadly disappointed they use 100% organic flour for these and all breads but because rye is denser you end up with a bread a lil more denser that will keep you fuller longer, a very good artisan product!(just wish they had the bread available all the time or post in IG when they don't have items would be appreciated) Service was efficient and quick but the cashier was a lil more friendlier, the coffee I ordered(lrg latte) wasn't anything phenomenal or even the regular (American) coffee that you pump yourself out of thermal containers(for the price I would appreciate better, & freshly brewed coffee) the choices for "regular" coffee were only two, with such large choices of coffee around Detroit it would be nice if they'd step up their game in this area. I'll continue coming here(driving over 46miles one way) for the bread and sweets alone, but in off...

The people I worked with were amazing but the company owner and higher ups were horrible. They kept telling me to change my personality. When giving them my thoughts on how to fix things at the store or make things look better my ideas were ignored and never seen through. Hours for work were never consistent, got hired as full time and worked part time. When I would go to HR with my problems they took forever to answer or had attitude in giving a response. The worst thing that happened while working there, one random day they told me we are laying you off due to not having the funds to pay their employees. (Last one hired first one fired) They told me I had 3 days to find another job!!! WHAT 3 DAYS!!!! who does this to anyone.... Mind we had a building issue and was out of work for 2 or 3 months and all they offered was unemployment (which was not even a quarter of my check) I stayed with the company through all that and then they screwed me over!!! After leaving, I walk into the store a few weeks after and see they hired other people!!!! What???? You just didn't have money to pay me.?? 3-4 new people!!!??

Overall the customers are great and someone of the coworkers were amazing people to be around but the company as a whole was horrible and I WOULD NOT consider working for them... especially if you want a consistent and guaranteed...

I just want to preface this first by stating that I have been to the Woodward location before and always enjoyed my food, so I'm upset I even have to write this review. I came here on Christmas Eve and ordered biscuits and gravy with a dressed salad on the side to go. When I opened the bag, I was incredibly disappointed in what I saw and paid for - 1 sad egg, biscuit, and extremely sweet sausage gravy. Actually I don't even think it was gravy given what they posted on 1/4/25. Please reference the picture attached. It tasted as bad as it looks. Now here is where I may have messed up, instead of calling the establishment back, I DM'd them on Instagram, in which they have yet to respond back. An acknowledgement or explanation would've been polite, especially since they have no issue posting 6x now.

I come here for the breads, you cannot best their fresh and moist delicacies. The texture and taste beat out supermarket breads any day of the week. The breads here are all made with quality ingredients, you're not buying disgusting "enriched" bread packed with preservatives. You're getting some legit bread man! The prices aren't too steep, but they aren't exactly cheap. You're getting quality here. I love the rye personally, the chewy outer shell, and it's soft and delicious interior has me hungry just thinking about it. Stop by if you're nearby and check it out, the smell might attract you regardless.
