We really were looking forward to trying Mom's Spaghetti, unfortunately the hype surpassed the product. Because of the hype and considering we went after a Tigers/Cubs game, we expected a long wait but was pleased that only like 5 or so people were ahead of us Nevertheless, we had a good time, and it was still a very memorable experience even though there wasn't a great deal to do here. There is a museum of sorts upstairs, but we got there after it closed. It's a very small menu. We were able to try everything, and there were just 4 of us. The basic spaghetti and meat sauce were exactly what one would expect. Served in a Chinese takeout like container. No bells or whistles here. We added meatballs to it, but they were extremely bland and cheap tasting. If you don't fancy regular meat sauce, Bolognaise is your other option for sauce. My advice, however, is to stick it out with the meat sauce. The Bolognaise was terrible and quite possibly the worst pasta sauce I've tasted in my life. It tasted and smelled like cigarette ash. Didn't even come close to finishing this. Don't recommend this dish to anyone, even smokers. All is not lost, however. The true standout here was the S'Ghetti sandwich. This was delicious. I'm not sure how there was such a contrast between this and the regular spaghetti, but there was, and I'm glad for it. If I had tried only the sandwich, this would've been a 4-star review. The dining room is extremely limited in seating. There may have been 5 stools lined along the windows and 2 single person booths on the kitchen side of the room. My picture below actually pretty much captures the entire dining room. But we were lucky enough to find enough seating, so we were happy with that. I do think Mom's Spaghetti is a place you have to go to at least once. But don't build it up with...
Read moreIf you don't want to read all that here's the short version: It's legendary.
Shout-out to Slims assistant, and the Owner going through all this, aye 2FLY if you read this tell Em a Stan named Mike said he the GOAT.
I waited in line for nearly 7 hours so you could definitely say my knees were weak and my arms were heavy, after I ordered my food it filled me up so much there was about to be vomit on my merch already. This surely was mom's spaghetti. Slim Shady himself was there early in the morning serving the first few people who camped outside all night before the store opened, but then he left. There will probably be lines for the next few days, but it's a permanent location so don't worry about missing out it'll always be there. My girlfriend and I got there at 5:30 PM and they ran out of meatballs at 10 PM, I bought a spaghetti sandwich which was so good. The building next door was selling some merchandise for the Mom's Spaghetti franchise, $25 for a few shirts, I don't know how much the hats costed. You could buy some vintage clothes that Eminem wore for $95 and you can buy his official merch there with prices ranging from $25 to $60. Not only could you buy merch there there was a projector that projected what his trailer looked like from the inside, as well as a few music videos for featured. And of course 24/7 Eminem music being played in the background. There's also some of his items on display like some cereal boxes all his badges he wore at concerts his Robin costume from the music video Without Me. Some Jordans were displayed. I forgot you can also buy some records. I highly recommend going here. FYI this is coming from a person who doesn't even like...
Read moreA not-so-hidden gem in downtown Detroit! I love coming here with friends before or after a game. Went back last night after the Tigers game. There was a moderate wait of about 10-15 outside of the serving window. After I get my food, I always go inside the Union Assembly building in the Mom's Spaghetti dining area. There are multiple tables as well as booths upstairs. The environment is great with an arcade and pinball machines, no doubt something that Eminem wanted in there since he loves arcade games. I got the spaghetti sandwich last night which I haven't had in a while and it was just as great as I remember it. It was my friend's first time going since he was up visiting from Tampa, and he absolutely loved the bolognese spaghetti sandwich and kept raving how it hit the spot (he was a little drunk after the game lol). If you go when it's open you definitely have to check out The Trailer upstairs in the Union Assembly building as well. There are unique items there for sale like Eminem memorabilia, shirts, hoodies, and drinking glasses that aren't available for sale online. They also sell the spaghetti sauce there in jars. On top of that, The Trailer is like the public Eminem museum if you're a huge fan like me. They have his outfits from certain shows as well as a pair of his Carhartt Jordan 4s on display, a signed football from his Super Bowl performance with Dr. Dre, and other items on display. In my opinion it's a must-stop if you're visiting Downtown Detroit and want to experience part of the culture, even if you only have a few minutes to do so. The spaghetti is pretty great too (I usually get the spaghetti and meatballs, which are all beef), only second to...
