I've been here once, and will continue to go back based upon a few key things that make this place an excellent place to hang out. My one singular complaint is that the A/C units they have installed here (I first visited in the summer), are completely inadequate for keeping the place cool. It gets hot, and it continues to heat up with the more people that pack themselves in there. Between all of the video games, the kitchen, and all of the people hanging out, it's a bit much for me temperature wise.
With that being said, this place is clean (though I didn't have to visit the bathroom so I cannot speak on that), the staff is friendly, and the games are super affordable. They also have a decent craft beer selection on draft—several of which I had never had until visiting. They also offer "Mystery Beers" (that come in a blank white bag so you really have no clue what you're getting) for a considerable discount. Pretty cool idea if you ask me.
There is also a reason why this place puts pizza before bar and arcade in their name. The reason is, that it is incredibly delicious. I heard from friends that it was good, but I was definitely not expecting the quality of pie that I received. I would step forward and say that it is some of the best pizza that I have had to date (I've only had "Da King", so I can't speak on anything else, but my bet is that it's all just as delicious).
Last but definitely not least, they have a pretty good selection of older and retro video games/pinball machines—many of which I haven't played in years. They are also super affordable to play (most are like a quarter and not much more).
From now on I will definitely recommend this place to whomever I can, whenever I can—and for myself, I will be back as...
Read moreThis is an 80's themed pizza and arcade bar located at the top level of the Checker bar.
The first time I visited was the day after it's official opening. I left disappointed with no intention on returning, to be honest I wasn't even sure why I was disappointed, it just didn't live up to my expectations.
Recently however I attended Ready Player Ones soft opening but had to leave after 45 min because the football game and screaming fans were way to distracting. But I needed my fix so back to POP + Offworld we headed which is just a 3 min walk away.
I had a blast - the pizza was excellent the drinks were solid and the game cabinets were clean and working properly.
That's when it hit me...it's the music
The first time I came to this place they were playing the same R&B that you would hear at any dance club....except I'm not at a dance club. I'm rocking out with Tron, Dig Dug and trying to get 1st place, I'm in nostalgia heaven and the jarring bump beat was throwing off my vibe.
The second time we came in to POP + Offworld after our fumble at RPO ....the music was solid 80's and it made a huge difference without me even noticing why at first ...I just knew I was going to come back a lot.
That's the element these places seem to keep missing - you aren't trying to be Dave and Busters and thank god for that! Lose the new music and focus more on capturing that sense of nostalgia that's going to bring people in to play. And for the love of god keep staying away from sports!!!! No joke....you know who wasn't playing cabinets but was ruining it for everyone else? The screaming drunk football fans
Spam pizza maybe?
Anyways solid experience that finally lived up to my...
Read moreWas really excited to visit this place for the pinball! First machine I went to ate my quarters and at least two others were out of order... after settling on playing star wars for awhile, a man kept coming up to the group of girls I was in and just watching us play... he even pretended to play a game beside us but was obviously just staring. He walked away and came back repeatedly and didn't say anything to us, not even when he picked up MY beer which I snatched out of his hand... I then asked him if he was waiting for our machine and he shook his head and walked away... he came back maybe ten minutes later with four beers... one for each of us and one for him. We paced around the room avoiding him until we couldn't any longer when he tried to start handing them out to us, this is when my friend politely declined and told him we were heading home soon... he still hasn't said a word to us but he walks away and sets all of the beers down at a different table full of women. We decided to tell the bartender about our experience but she quickly defended the man claiming he was a regular and he was just really drunk-but that she didn't serve him. She even went as far as to say he must have gotten drunk at the other bar down stairs before coming up but we had been down stairs at the bar with maybe ten other people for about an hour before coming up and he was not there drinking. We also watched her serve him four unopened beers intended for us. Unprofessional, and inappropriate service. Shame on the female bartender that didn't take three uncomfortable women seriously. I hope your regular isn't making women...
