To be completely honest here, I'm not entirely sure how it's taken me this long to stop in here and have a few drinks. The history here alone, makes for a worthwhile trip. It's old, it's deceivingly large, and It's probably one of the most beautiful and history rich bars in town. Aside from the history, the incredibly friendly knowledgeable staff, and the sizeable beer selection are worth the trip. This place has one more major thing going for it, and that is location. This place is located amongst many of the things that everyone is coming downtown to partake in, so if that sounds like you, this place should absolutely be added to your itinerary. When you walk in, the first thing you'll notice is how it opens up into the beautifully historic architecture that you'll see throughout this entire place. Secondly you'll be greeted by one of the super friendly, professional, and knowledgeable staff members that keep this place running. This is a bit of a sidebar, but when I was in, I overheard one of the bartenders recommending all sorts of other places to hang out and drink to a couple of sports fans that were in town for a game. To me, that is awesome that you'd go above and beyond and recommended places that are technically your competition so people can mosey around and have a good time. This place is also deceivingly large, but you probably won't realize that until you make your way to the bathroom. There is a whole separate seating area located on the side where the bathrooms are. While we're on the subject of bathrooms, let's just say that they're not great here. I understand that building is old, and there is only so much to work with, without having to put a bunch of money into the place and then deal with it being historic and all that jazz. All I am going to say is that I am very, VERY glad that I only had to visit the urinal and nothing else. Simply put, it's hot, it's sweaty, it's dingy, and it's very, VERY cramped. To be completely honest, that is really my only complaint here. The service was great, the beer was cold, and I had already eaten or else I would have taken a dive face first into the fare they offer. When all is said and done, if you're downtown hopping around to different bars and scoping things out, I would highly recommended popping in here for a drink or three. You most certainly won't regret it. Cheers!

This is a great pub in a gorgeous historical building, centrally located on Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit. It's a very quick walk from the Marriott at the GM Renaissance Centre and many of the other hotels downtown. There are lots of seating options, both downstairs (two rooms) and upstairs in the loft area, as well as a nice outdoor patio. My friends and I stopped here for drinks after we arrived in Detroit and it was bustling, but had a nice relaxed atmosphere. It happened to be happy hour, and they have fantastic deals. We opted for the Reuben sliders and a couple of local beers - they have an extensive list of local options to choose from, with a few on the happy hour menu for half price. We sat in the loft and had a birds eye view of the whole restaurant. The service was quick and attentive and the food arrived quickly, fresh and piping hot. The Reubens were absolutely out of this world delicious, and a perfect snack for after a long flight. The smoked meat was so tender and juicy, and the buns were soft and had a delicious toasted buttery crunch. They paired so well with the beers. All of the other food we saw going to other tables looked and smelled fantastic as well! We loved it so much that we tried to come back the next day. Unfortunately, it was packed as it was a Tigers game day and there was a long wait. It's definitely a popular place! We had a great experience and it was a wonderful way to start our trip to Detroit!

Stopped in here for the first time before the Lions vs Vikings game last night. Service was amazing! We sat at the bar and the bartenders were engaging, efficient, and kept our drinks full for the duration of the visit - even in a packed house - wouldn't want it any other way. Scan a QR code on the menu to reveal a 3 page craft beer list. Pictured are a pomegranate paloma, and the apple cider mule - both drinks were delicious. We had the Ruben egg rolls as an appetizer and they were so good. The bartender explained that they removed them from the menu and their customers started complaining so they brought them back and they are now one of their best sellers. And I now know why - they were to die for if you like a Ruben sandwich! My wife ordered the chicken & chips and they were fantastic. Hand battered real, hot and fresh chicken strips. They were delicious. I had the Wagyu beef Philly cheese steak sandwich and fries. The sandwich was very good however the beef tasted more like pot roast than philly beef so for that reason the sandwich missed the mark as a cheese steak for me. After we cashed out our bartender told us to stay put and he'd be right back. He then proceeded to bring us two tea shots - which were amazing as well! Over all a great visit and so glad we picked this place to try out! We will definitely be back next time we are back in Detroit!

A fantastic little spot clearly in an older building that stays indicative of it's cozy demeanor. The cozy space has a lot of seating with nice big open windows at the front. The bar is huge and runs across almost the entire left side of the main room. The food was unique and tasty. I got the chicken and waffles, to which I was sceptical. Most places use chicken breast, thighs, and sometimes terribly wings. This place used chicken strips which made eating the chicken and waffles very easy and saving me from spending ten minutes removing the meat from the bone. The best part was the local Michigan maple syrup which treated phenomenal, make sure to ask for two tubs as one of not enough. One note there are like to no plugs in this place so don't expect to be able to plug in a phone and have it charge while you wait. Update: Went back again, something I don't usually do, and was once again not disappointed. You the beer cheese and pretzel's (great pretzel's the cheese was not my favorite), the happy hour sliders (great choice), and churros. Great service as always and a nice seat by the window!

My girlfriend and I were in town for a concert this weekend and stopped in for brunch before heading home. We wanted to visit another spot but they had a a near two hour wait and after driving around, we found Grand Trunk Pub. Thankfully they had people dining on an outside patio area they created because we probably wouldn't have noticed. We sat on the patio and I have to admit, I'd never done that in the City of Detroit. It was a great day for it too. The food was really good. I got the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito. It was ok and probably not something I'd get again (I'm picky about my chorizo.) but looking at their menu there were lots of good sounding options. My girlfriend got the Chicken and Waffles and we got the Reuben wantons. We loved them! And the Bloody Mary she ordered was insane! I'm still floored that it had a mini grilled cheese on it and a strip of thick cut bacon with it. As usual, parking is always a PITA in Detroit but if you're looking for a place, give them a shot.

This bar is located in a former railroad station which is really cool. The servers are super awesome. You do have to wait to be seated at a table, but if you don't want to wait you can just sit at the bar. It has open seating. They have a very wide variety of hard liquor in addition to wine and beer. All of which they have large selections of. They also have a fairly large food menu for a bar. I personally got the trunk Burger which is a double smashburger with American cheese, honey maple bacon, and caramelized onion on a brioche bun with a side of their seasoned fries. All of which were absolutely amazing. The bartender asked if I would like to add ketchup and I politely declined because the food was so good it did not need anything in addition. Out the door I spent less than $30 on the food. I would highly recommend going here for a drink or just some food, even if you're not looking for a drink. If I'm ever in Detroit again, I will definitely be eating here.
