Shell Shock'd Tacos — Restaurant in Detroit

I can't lie... The food was good. I ordered elote corn and chicken, birria tacos, and the queso. Chicken and corn... A+. Birria tacos with queso (No chips... They're extra. 😒)... C+. My reason for this score is because of my experience and they didn't have the egg rolls. Drove all the way across town, paid for parking to try this place because of an influencer I follow... I told the employee this and she was very friendly. No problem. There is a sign that says "no modifications." Alright, I'm thinking substitutions and what not... I asked only for my wings to be cooked harder. I can't stand wings that are wet and the skin is soft and rubbery... Especially wings without breading. The cashier and I had about a 15 minute stand off because apparently, well done is a "modification." I expressed my dismay and she says, "It's up to them. I'm just the cashier" or something to that effect. I can agree with some things, but I have to pay for the food and eat it based on the temperature that you feel is appropriate? 🙅🏾‍♀️ That's like a cook serving you a well done steak and you wanted medium or rare. I was pissed and started not to buy it, but we had come so far. The cook eventually agreed to cook the wings well done and they were great. I can say this... I was heated. Cashier never lost her cool or professional demeanor... They have a gem. Didn't break character while dealing with an upset customer. She will go far in life with that ability... I'm still trying to learn that myself. I only put 3 for the service because there is no "experience" option. She was pleasant, I just didn't like having to go back and forth or wait for "permission" to have the temperature of my food cooked...

The reviews were great and I was staying nearby in an Airbnb so I figured I'd stop in and perhaps they were having a bad day but the food was not as good as it was when it was Alley Tacos. Pork egg roll... the pork had no seasoning and was nearly mush like it had been over worked in the shredding, also the egg roll wrapper wasn't quite cooked it was really stretchy and starchy.

The service definitely did not come with a smile. The guy kept his sunglasses on the whole time and didn't smile once. You talked in such a low voice I could barely even hear him. Like he would rather be anywhere else or like he was high.

The wait time for the food was reasonable. They were not busy at all.

The prices are quite high. I got a combo with two Birria tacos, some elote and some elote wings or something. Skin on the wings was rubbery and there was too much cumin or something. All I could taste. Overpowered the mayo even.

For that combo and the egg roll it was $32. I didn't even eat half of it. It was all really One Note. No real flavor or texture. Even the limes that came in the box had no juice in them.

I absolutely LOVED my experience I had here. I ordered the chicken and beef egg rolls. They were big & juicy. I barely had an appetite but my family insisted that I try it. It was DELICIOUS, and fulfilling as well. The deliciousness woke me up lol. We had to eat our food before we even pulled off. The Customer Service was Phenomenal. I didn’t see not ONE employee being rude or dry. They all seemed happy to be there to serve us. They were patient with me as I asked questions about the menu. After visiting on Saturday, I couldn’t help myself but to return days later. I also tried the Krunch Wrap and tacos as well. The corn is Tasty too. I will definitely spread the word about this spot. I’m excited for you all and I pray you all continue to conquer your dreams with this one. I know you’ll be around a long time with this exceptional service. Keep up the amazing job you all are doing.
