Read moreBeware of these poorly managed events at The Doral Yard. I’ve liked going to Doral Yard in the past but after this experience I won’t go again. My friend told me about the kids Halloween event this year on 10/27. She had already bought tickets. I went online to buy them but they had just sold out. The day of the event I called when Doral Yard opened at 12:00 and spoke to a woman who informed me enthusiastically not to worry because ticket sales would begin at the door at 1:45 pm. I arrived at the door at 1:35 pm. I was told by the man at the door to wait on the side of the line with my toddler (not to mention that we were in constumes and standing in the heat and I’m currently pregnant with twins). Other people waiting along with us confirmed they were told same thing - a woman on the phone said that tickets go on sale at the door at 1:45 pm. After waiting about 30 min I asked the doorman “Is this still the right place to wait to buy tickets to get in?” to which he replied something along the lines of “I wouldn’t wait. There’s no point in waiting.” I asked “So you won’t be selling tickets?” And he dismissively said no. The manager and someone who appeared to be an owner of the establishment was standing outside as well. When this occurred, the owner just walked away seemingly to avoid the conflict. When I addressed the manager about it he struggled to make excuses and said “tickets were sold two years ago- I mean, two weeks ago…” to which I replied “We drove from from Broward. Why was someone answering the phone saying tickets would go on sale at the door at 1:45?” The whole time I was standing at the door I didn’t see one ticket sold. The manager handled the situation really poorly. No apologies, understanding, or empathy. No attend to correct the situation on their end. I’ll be sharing this experience with my friends who I’ve gone here with...
Read moreJust from walking in to The Doral Yard, it's evident that a ton of thought went into the design of the space. Inside the food Hall there is ample seating at high top tables. At the front of the room the are three food vendors: Un Pollo, a Venezuelan chicken place, della bowls, expertly crafted veggie options and Yip, dim sum and buns. I went with a group of friends and we were able to try all three. From Un Pollo, chicken has perfectly crispy skin and is moist, the yucca we got with it has a satisfying crunch and the avocado salad was simple and fresh. From Yip, the duck in the duck bun was satisfyingly crispy with a sweet plum sauce and, the shrimp bun sauce had a slight kick to it. The Southwestern bowl from della bowls has a multitude of delightfully crunchy textures and, Cynthia, who took orders, couldn't stop raving about the cookies, couldn't stop raving about the cookies, so I'll have to try them next time.
Once you exit the main room and make your way outside, you pass by space for two future vendors and a large restaurant. I am excited to see what's going in to these two spaces. Wynwood Yard had a great selection of innovative vendors and I'm hopeful to see the same here. Past the restaurant, there is large covered outdoor seating area, anchored on the far side by a stage and right by the Santo Dulce churros stand and the left by a bar with seating. While we were there we were lucky enough to see a performance - the singer had a beautiful voice and did a great job engaging the audience during her set. To cap off the night, we had some churros which were super crispy and abundantly coated in cinnamon.
I am looking forward to returning to The Doral Yard with friends and seeing what the new vendors and restaurant have to offer. It's a really beautiful space to spend an evening with friends and the live music is...
