First of all, this is not, nor was it ever an old mill. The smell of sewage was coming from the back door of the restaurant, not sure what was going on there. They are known for their crab claws, prime rib, and steaks, all of which we ordered. They were out of prime rib by 6pm. The crab claws only come heavily breaded and fried. A total disservice to the delicious blue crab. All you could taste is the breading. The free bread was quickly discarded after the first bite by our entire table. It took FOREVER to get drinks. I had to stand up and look for the quote l waitress several times because we thought she just forgot to take our order. The menu oddly boast about the steaks being served with a homemade steak sauce. To which I questioned and was told the genuine Angus steaks are pre- covered in steak sauce!!! Who does that?!! That's like admitting your steaks are terrible that we go ahead and cover them in sauce. My ribeye may have possibly been the worst ribeye I've ever had. It was so tough it took me at least 5 sawing strokes with a serrated knife along with pulling to get a piece cut off. My wife spit hers out and gave up trying to chew it. Somebody annoyingly ordered dessert which tasted like the same garbage bread covered in more sauce. I should have went to Texas roadhouse, heck even outback would have been better. For once I would have rather a...
Read moreGreat service at this place. Our waitress was very vigilant of the table needs and was on top of it, therefore, the 5 stars in this area.
I had 10 oz. a ribeye with a sweet potato. The sweet potato was outstanding, on the other hand, the ribeye, not so much. However, to their benefit, I asked for my steak to be cooked with only salt and pepper over butter, avoiding their homemade sauce (mainly because most sauces like this contain sugar which I avoid as I am diabetic). I added more salt at the table and more butter and the meat improved significantly.
I also had a side salad which I can rate as "nothing to write home about it." The place and bathrooms were clean. The ambiance was rated a little low because the appearance of an old restaurant was not appealing to me. Perhaps that goes with the place name and if you do not care this area may be a 4 or 5 stars for you.
Bottom line, this was my first experience for steak in Dothan, Alabama. The person who recommended the place painted a more spectacular picture of what I got, considering I spent over $40 (maybe my Atlanta trained taste buds are spoiled to more flavourful food đ). Next time I will try other places with steak and will have data for a better comparison.
My coworker had seafood and he...
Read moreMost items on the menu are great, but my advice, based on several visits over time, is to avoid the stuffed grouper (and maybe flounder) because they don't know how to cook fish. The grouper may be fresh but always seems to be overcooked, a little dry, and the stuffing is disappointing. Mine had five or six TINY crab claws on top of cafeteria-grade stuffing mix with no additional crab meat. Several of the crab claws had no meat at all, and the few that did had only a miniscule amount. Price: $39. At least with the stuffed flounder, for $24, you might not be as disappointed. My wife's Jumbo shrimp was great. Their dinner rolls are wonderful, as are the desserts. Not quite sure what to make of the bread pudding, though. It was mostly bread, very little pudding. That said, the bread was excellent quality, so with a richer application of warm sauce, it could have been excellent, but like the fish, was dry. I'll also mention that my meal came with two sides, but as only one side appealed, I asked to substitute soup and was denied that choice even though I offered to pay the up charge. Service was very slow even though the restaurant was less...
