Mikata in Dothan, Alabama is pretty good in overall taste, but it is on the expensive side and they skip on some things where they really should not because of the prices. For example, at a table of six they only had two eggs in the fried rice. In my opinion after eating at dozens of Japanese restaurants over the United States you should at least at the very minimum have one egg for every two people, and my recommendation is one egg for every person. Eggs are cheap and you should not skip on eggs. That is a key ingredient to fried rice. Especially when you're going to up charge everybody an additional $2 for fried rice. The soup was good, salad was fine, the shrimp were good, but my filet mignon was a little on the stringy side and really chewy. It actually made me think that I may be eating a fake fillet. In comparison I had a filet mignon at Texas Roadhouse the night before which was delicious and almost melt-in-your-mouth. The vegetables were also not cooked well. They were basically Raw and should have been cooked at least 5 more minutes. I have eaten at this Mikata before. Most of my visits are good, but this one wasn't as good as prior visits. Our waitress also got a portion of our order incorrect, but it worked out as there was plenty of food. The water is also tolerable and not heavy on chlorine for anyone that is not a soda or tea drinker.

Where do I begin. My husband and I had the hibachi. We were seated right away and our order was taken quickly as well but the wait for the chef was like 20 minutes. I thought maybe they had only 1 chef cooking that night and we had to wait until he was done at the other table. But ours eventually showed up and by the end I was wishing we did just have to wait for the other chef. He only said a few single words and very quietly. He only did a couple tricks, the big fire, flipping the utensils, and the onion train which didn’t actually work. He flung rice and veggies everywhere, and dripped the dipping sauce all over as well. I got the steak and scallops. The steak was overcooked and the scallops were undercooked. The rice, cabbage, and veggies were good though. The chef at the next table kept telling our chef to say something, be entertaining. The hibachi is pricey and they charge extra for the fried rice but you do get a large portion. That other chef, Thomas, did apologize for how our night turned out and told us to give them a second chance and ask for him. He seemed to know that hibachi was for entertainment as well, we heard him during our meal and he seemed very funny and engaging with his table.

Been here many times. The hibachi was awesome and sushi was amazing as always. This trip was a bit different than the others though. Our server seemed very hyper and rushed us and the other 2 families seated with us. Took drink orders and brought them out very quickly and seemed uneasy because none of the table was ready to order. Had to ask for a sushi menu and he didn't bother to ask anyone else. He quickly returned wanting to know if we were ready to order again. I requested sushi menus for the other parties due to them trying before he left to get mine and ignored them. Everyone ordered and I requested miso soup with my sushi. The chef arrived and began cooking the hibachi (in agreement with another comment-with only 2 eggs in the rice for 7 people). There seemed to be a crazy amount of cabbage and "filler" with VERY little meat. Never experienced any small portions before. Everyone got soup and salad quickly with their hibachi but my miso came way later. Before everyone was even completely served their hibachi by the chef, the server came with boxes, asking who needed one. We were all brought our checks when not even halfway through our meals. Then, I was asked to stop eating my meal and go ahead and pay.... Then stopped again to sign my card receipt. Very unprofessional and downright annoying when trying to enjoy a $128 meal with your family. The restaurant was not packed, no one waiting, plenty of available seating and well before closing time. Not saying we won't be back but I certainly hope they make some much...

Honestly, the best part of the experience was our hibachi chef. He was a doll! Made us laugh the whole time and really broke the ice with our kids, which was GREAT. Very suprised that for the price, there weren't any noodles included. 😕 I've never in my life been to one that didn't serve this with the meal at a higher-end steakhouse. Salad didn't come with ginger dressing. You have to ask. It was a house dressing, which I thought was odd. The ginger dressing was very strong, not nice and creamy with a nice orange hue to it like I'm used to. Ordered what I thought was steak,...ended up being some sliced steak in sauce with onions and scallions. Tasted good, but wish as a courtesy that someone would have asked me if that was sure that's what I wanted. I also thought it was a little odd that we had cabbage as another side, when we were already getting mixed vegetables. 🤔🤨 Portions were definitely on the small end for the amount of money you pay. The menu was paper, which I thought was dingy. Little lady at the front was packed full of attitude and clearly called my number and gave my table to someone else just because she wanted one less party out of her way. I've never paid over 75$ at a hibachi for me and my two kids, and I paid over 103$ just for the three of us. Im from mid-Florida, where there are hibachi on every corner, so sorry-not-sorry, this did not meet my expectations that day. Will NOT...
