My wife and I are Florida residents who came to Dothan simply to escape hurricane Milton. We are seniors. We arrived Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, 8 October, we were going to use the fitness center, and noted that there was drywall dust over the equipment and a cluster of buckets close to the door - but there was no note stating that the center was closed. We went to the front desk and my wife asked if the fitness center was going to be cleared up while we were staying at the hotel as we would like to use it. We would be leaving Friday, 11 October as we were paid through Friday. She was told no and that the project was a long one. Hearing that we went back to our room. Not too long after we returned to our room, our life became a nightmare. The manager, Mr. Huh, called our room and my wife answered the phone. He went into a tirade of yelling at my wife saying that we complained about the fitness center. He continued this insulting action, accusing us of wanting a refund - a lie, we never did - he accused us of the fact that if we would complain about the fitness center, we would probably complain about other things. He told my wife that he was kicking us out of the hotel. Understand, that there was not any available hotel rooms within a 150 mile range from Dothan. Hearing enough of his insulting behavior, my wife told him, “I’m not going to talk to you, I’m hanging the phone up, goodbye.” I called Choice Hotel corporate and conveyed the story that I have just outlined. A lady named Michelle told me, after apologizing many times, that as we were paid through Friday, 11 October, we did not have to leave the hotel. After asking her a number of times, I finally got her to acknowledge that the manager would be given that message. At some time later, Mr. Huh called our room again. This time I answered the phone and he continued with his belligerent behavior, demanding that we leave Wednesday morning. I told him that I had spoken with corporate and that we did not have to leave. He threatened me with calling the police to force us out. He asked again, “are you going to check out tomorrow?” I told him no and said goodbye. I then called corporate again and spoke with a gentleman, I did not get his name. He read the notes from my discussion with Michelle and I told him that the manager had called again and threatened me with having police kick us out of the hotel. I restated the fact that there was no place for us to go as I had been looking at all of the travel sites for hotel availability with no luck. While on the phone with this representative, there is a knock on our door at 8:07PM - it was the police. My wife invited them into our room, two fully armed police officers, telling us that we had no choice but had to leave Wednesday morning. My wife spoke with the officers, explaining our situation while I was still on the phone with Choice Hotel corporate. Interestingly enough, the police told us that the reason that the manager was kicking us out of the hotel was because we contacted corporate. In addition, the officers told us about a number of lies that the manager had told them about this situation. Hearing our side of the story, one officer stated that he needed to contact his supervisor. He told us that the supervisor sided with the manager. In speaking with this second corporate representative, I was made aware of the lies about this situation that the manager had told him also. After being put on hold by the corporate rep, he came back and stated that because the Sleep Inn was individually owned, the manager could do anything he wanted. The rep did help us find another hotel, but it was 187 miles away - Birmingham, Alabama. We accepted. I hung up and told the police the results of the call with Choice Hotels corporate, and that we would check out Wednesday morning, and corporate stated that we would receive a full refund for the two unused nights. Wednesday morning we packed up and checked out and drove to Birmingham. To do this to two senior adults, who were here only because a storm greater than perhaps any in decades was roaring through where we live in Florida is reprehensible. The fact that corporate backed this outlandish action is...
Read moreThe CSR(Melody) who checked me in was exceptional. Very personable and informative. Although, it was just an overnight stay, the poor Customer Service Rep at the front desk on the morning shift, caused me not to want to stay at your hotel again. Unlike the previous evening shift CSR(Melody) she was GREAT. The next morning while taking my belongings to the car passing by the front desk the morning of check out, the Front Seat Rep. never looked up or acknowledged me as a guest... not even the daily greeting. I thought to myself maybe she was preoccupied or something. However, once I reentered the lobby, she still didn't look up, give any greeting, or acknowledge that she saw me. I gathered the rest of my belongings, exited the room and and headed towards the Front Desk. Once I reached the Front Desk, she did the same thing again. Never acknowledging my presence or giving the daily greeting. Only this time she just walked up to the register without saying as little as, good morning or even, "hi". I said good morning, she responded, "You're checking out"?. I said, "Yes" and I asked her name, she said, "Anna". I said, " Oh okay". I thought my asking her name would change her rudeness and poor customer service... it did not. After giving her my door entry card, without looking up she muttered, "That's it". I asked for my receipt to which she gave me, again without looking up at me to acknowledge me as a customer. I asked again... kindly, "What did you say your name is"? This was the only time she looked up, she said her name again, still as though she didn't understand the brevity of what was going on... purposed or not. As a patron of your business, I felt as though my business at your hotel was of no value. Even the older lady cleaning up, as soon as she saw me, we both spoke to each other at the same time. Heading to my car she(the older lady) saw me again and gave a resounding, "Have a good day, thanks for coming". This type of customer service displayed by the Front Fest Rep was rude, unprofessional and disregard for your customers and it could cause your business to experience an increase in low customer return. Even though the price factor was exceptional and quality of your establishment may be a plus too, however, poor customer service negates all of those qualities. Check your camera to confirm and implement some type of Customer...
Read moreI stayed at your hotel in March of this year- I very much enjoyed the stay especially the breakfast, Cheryl and Cathy made it fun. So, there was no question where I would stay for my September trip. Cheryl, Cathy and the breakfast were again the best part of my stay. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed in the housekeeping and the cleanliness. The original room that I had was filthy- I went to take a shower and there was mold on the shower head: no way was I staying in there. I reported this to Cathy and she moved me to another room. However, things got worse. I had to go to the desk to get my own toilet paper, cups for water and clean bags for ice as none of them were replenished. My sink wasn't cleaned the entire time that I was there. I even went and reported to the front desk to the gentlemen that was working that my toilet paper, cups and ice water bag wasn't being checked and he said that he would notify housekeeping. Unfortunately, this continued. On Wednesday the 24th, I left towels on the floor "requesting" clean ones. When I returned to the room later that day, the bed was made- but nothing else was done. The towels were on the floor where I left them and no vacuuming (I purposely left 2 cookie crumbs to see if the room was being vacuumed and the dead bugs behind the door were still there from when I checked in). I notified Cathy about this and she offered new towels, replenished the toilet paper and bags, and I told her how bad the housekeeping was this time. The plumbing also seemed worse- I called the front desk to report the toilet was stopped and the staff brought me a plunger and left. I'm sorry, but that's the job of the staff not mine. The only highlight was Cheryl and Cathy, and the breakfast was good. However, I was highly disappointed in my stay and doubt that I will ever stay here again. I was constantly wondering if it was safe to touch anything in that room. After my stay in March I would've recommended your hotel. But after this stay, I will not recommend it to any of my...
