Upon my son’s request, we visited This Is It-Douglasville for the first time. “Why not?” I thought, the one on Memorial Drive was always great! This one was a bit different. I wasn’t expecting to see teens/young adults running the place. They were courteous, but I questioned their cooking skills.
The restaurant was clean and smelled like fresh paint, not a soul food restaurant. With the exception of the fried chicken, the food on the serving line did not look appealing. It was as if the delivery truck hadn’t arrived and they had to cook whatever was available. There wasn’t a large selection to choose from. I looked forward to the peach cobbler. Sadly, none was available. Thought about the variety of sliced, homemade cakes that were served at the establishment that I used to frequent. Nope, none of that either.
I chose the 3 pc whiting with cabbage and mac’n’cheese. My son chose the rib tips, mac’n’cheese and sweet potato soufflé. The total was $39.57 and no beverages were included. The whiting was cooked perfectly, but it was very salty. The cabbage was undercooked. I didn’t have high expectations for the mac’n’cheese, so I wasn’t disappointed. My muffin needed to be baked a little while longer. My son said the sweet potato soufflé was “straight”. The biggest disappointment was the rib tips. They tasted like they were boiled and put in the oven then topped with a watered-down barbecue sauce.
I read the reviews for this location when it first opened, but thought I would try it for myself. It’s been open long enough for things to be running...
Read moreWe ordered 2 orders of the 2 for $35 meals. The sign was right when you walked in. One of the owners saw our struggle and moved it to the line for better visibility and ordering. It included 1 main dish, 2 sides, cornbread muffin, dessert, and drink. The ribs were readily available, but the 3 piece whiting and turkey chop was made to order. Everything was good. I mean everything, except for a couple of things. Star notes, the mac n cheese, the sweet potato pie, the cornbread muffin, ribs, turkey chop, peach cobbler. Down side - The cole slaw do not, I repeat do not get it, do not waste your side choice on this stuff. The texture was off. It was slimy, no seasoning. It tasted like it was sitting out all day. This is it! needs to do themselves a favor and just let it go. Maybe invest in a macaroni salad instead. The whiting had bones in it. It was good, but just be careful. I don't like picking through bones. The little side tarter sauce had some kick to it. I believe it was a mustard mayo base with some relish. I like a good dipping sauce. That sweet potato pie was delicious. It tasted just like my grandmother's. Make a note to get your order in during the holidays, so you're not stuck with the celebrity brand pie from Wally World. Overall the staff was friendly. Everyone was smiling. Just be prepared to wait in line if you have whole families ordering or if you have items that are made to order. My family and I will...
Read moreI usually reserve giving reviews to excellent service/product but occasionally share negative reviews. Unfortunately, this is an instance of a negative review. I typically have a great experience with This Is It (except for their horrible website), and I usually get food from the Camp Crek location being that it's near my home. I've gotten food from the Douglassville location on one instance based on convenience with it being on my way home from work and it being a new location.
I'm giving this a poor review as their fault today goes against the whole purpose of being a Barbecue restaurant... having Barbecue. I ordered, online, sirloin tips and regular rib tips. They attempted to call me and alert me they did not have sirloin tips at this location (not indicated on the website for this location). When I arrived, they gave me the option of the ribs while adding they didn't have rib tips at all. 5 minutes after that, they told me ribs would be ready until dinner hours (approximately 3 hours from now). I didn't have faith in any other replacement options (and none of the replacement options suited my preference for some form of ribs). This is disappointing as I regularly spend $90-120 every other month getting Barbecue for my family from the Camp Creek location. While that location (including the To Go location) has had their issues, I've never had an issue where so many basic options...
