Overall rating: 4.25/5 stars Would I recommend/go there again? Absolutely
Service: (5/5 stars) The staff were very friendly, helpful, and professional.
Ambience (3/5 stars): Although I enjoyed the cozy, intimate atmosphere of the restaurant, I felt that the experience was muddied by the shabby, outdated chairs and tables. (Simply sanding and re-staining the worn chairs might go a long way.) I did not get a chance to take a good look at the outdoor dining area but, from what I could see, it seemed more updated.
Menu (2/5 stars): Call me old-fashioned but I prefer having a physical menu to look at instead of having to take my smartphone and get the menu via QR code. Not everyone has a smartphone or brings one to dinner. For some people, a night out can mean a no-phone policy to foster conversation. Oddly enough, certain menu items were not accessible on the online menu. Items such as sides, specials, and desserts were conveyed by the server.
Menu selection (4/5 stars): A nice, diverse menu of dishes, some of which you would not find in your typical chain restaurant.
Pricing (4/5 stars): Menu items are pricier compared to your chain restaurants but they seem to reflect the quality of their food. I do, however, think a few items may have been slightly overpriced.
Food: We ordered the Southwest Egg Roll as an appetizer, which was crispy, delicious, and perfectly spiced (5/5 stars). For entrees, we ordered the Mediterranean Eggplant Stack (MES) and the Baton Rouge Salmon (BRS). The MES was delicious; the eggplant was not soggy or oily, the sauce had a robust flavor profile but was not too runny, and the pasta was also good (5/5 stars). My friend said that the top layer of the BRS was extremely salty (which she ended up scraping off) but that the salmon itself and the rest of her meal (potatoes and broccoli) were excellent. She raved about the Caesar salad. So, for her meal, I give a rating of 4/5. For dessert, we each had the apple tart with ice cream, which was delicious (5/5 stars)
Drinks (3/5 stars): Since house martinis are half price on Wednesdays, we each ordered a cucumber mint martini. The drink was very strong. We ended up not drinking them and settling with our water. If you like your drinks very strong, then the martinis might be for you.
Trivia (4/5): The Let's Do Trivia host, Rich, was great—a super friendly guy who helped explain the game to us newbies. The game itself was fun, but I think it could have been more well-rounded and balanced; a lot of questions were about people or events in the...
Read moreReally nice place. Inside and out. One of the better locations in Dover. The place still has the frat house feel because I used to frequent smithers(the prior business). It is elegant and a good place to take a date or go out with a group. Pricing is relatively good. Portions were really good. Sides suck in my opinion. I ordered a drink (sangria) it was more like a long island with super sweet berry flavoring in it. I got a headache (probably cheap liqour) between that and a delicious beer I ordered. I switched to beer because the sangria was unpleasant. The beer however was delicious! Think I had two of them. It was the triple something...whichever brewery it was there were like 6 to choose from of that same brewery. It was 10% too. The only negative besides the crappy sangria was that there was only one server and 2 helpers. The helpers brought stuff out and stood around like indentured servants (somewhat awkward) and the server kiyeana or whatever her name was (I think I'm close on her name) was the only server on like 3 big parties and two small tables. She worked her ass off. She was rushed and you could tell she wasn't really interested in answering people's questions but she did the best she could. Food also took a while to come out but was not exceptionally long. If one of the helpers actually served the tables meaning 2 servers and one helper I think it would make ordering and wait times more pleasant. If they made a real sangria vs the long island b/S I was served that would render 5 stars vs the 4. I would definitely return again. Imo grey fox mcgylnns and gov mansion are the only spots id want to go to with mcgylnns getting to rowdy around 7 or 8pm. Grey fox is definitely a destination worth visiting and worth visiting over...
Read moreUPDATE: My husband and I were in search of brunch this past weekend and a lot of our favorite locations have stopped serving it. We decided to give Grey Fox another chance and we are so glad we did! Their brunch was awesome! Great selections, great drinks and overall nice atmosphere. What really made it amazing was our bartender and server Nolan. He was bright, caring and attentive. We asked for suggestions and he willingly gave them without hesitation as well as talked with us and made us feel welcomed. He is a superb individual that made connections with us as his guests that were genuine which makes all the difference (go birds!). He is a huge reason why our experience was positive and my review has changed. The food came out and it did not disappoint. I am impressed with their quality and we will be returning for sure.
Heard a ton of positive things about this place and it was a complete let down. Very skimpy menu with a lack of variety in terms of food that's not fish or so overworked its undesirable. Service at bar was horrendous. It took 45 minutes for an easy appetizer to come out and it was overcooked and nasty. It wasnt even busy either. Just a complete let down and not worth the money or time you will spend for bad service and food. We were there on a Saturday night at 8pm (the 3rd of november). We did not report the issue as the service was hard enough to get in the first place and trying to catch the attention of the bartender became a chore. We ordered southwest egg rolls tried them and left the rest as they just weren't good after waiting the 45 mins. The bartender was more worried about music not playing than serving customers that weren't regulars or...
