After considering all options in Duluth of KBBQ, I went with Morning house per the recommendation of Sara at Gopchang on fire 2. My party and I arrived a litte after 12 midnight. We were seated straight away. I came for the option A and wanted their exotic offerings, the beef intestines. I started out with 4 pieces and my party wanted the bulgogi and steamed egg. We dined with orders of Coca-cola, green grape soju, Kloud beer, and excitement. Mrs. Park was immediately impressed by my menu choice and came to the table to greet me. She asked was everyone going to enjoy this selection and they all laughed nervously pointing her to me. I then told her they are very tasty and I enjoy the bbq entrail meats. Several of the restaurant staff visited our table last night. I think mostly out of curiosity and delight. It's not common a westerner appreciates true Korean street barbeque. Of course everyone accompanied me during my venture of enjoying each bite with a radish wrap, grilled onion, cold noodles, or kimchi throughout my visit. They paired well with the Daechang, The real stars though, were the kimchi & radish. It's well balanced spice brought out the smoky charred flavor of the Beef intestines.
As the aroma began to fill our section, more onlookers took interest. I didn't notice any distinction of unpleasant odor. There was no acrid emanation coming from my Daechang. For the many who have made complaints of noxious smells from the meat, you had a poorly cleaned and old cut, or the ventilation at your grill wasn't ample for the amounts of beef offal you are preparing. Eventually, I paired a generous sized piece with the radish. The flavor profile was astounding. There were notes reminiscent of the beef ribeye cap steak. (The fat cap on steak is a fatty piece between the skin and the meat, which tastes like the large intestines.) If cooked at high enough temperatures, there's just enough remaining fat to leave a slight layer between the rib meat and the fat cap, leaving parts of the steak buttery, savory, crispy on the outer layer, and pleasantly palatable. Of course if there is going to be any fat on a beef organ, it tends to coat your palate and throat therefore requiring a refreshing beverage that compliments the choice of meat. Upon selecting the large beef intestines, you'll be in for a great culinary adventure!
When the entrails of a cow are cleaned correctly & served fresh, there won't be an odorous smell as so many social media videos and reviewers loosely term the phrase. If you frequently barbecue any beef products, particularly the ribs or ribeye, they have their own aromatics. The beef cooking technique of smoking releases specific proteins and fats that contain a grassy, sweet, charbroiled meaty aroma. Beef is a profoundly distinct animal when cooking that is unmistakable, making it an excellent Korean favorite. So if there is a hint of that sweet beefy note before, during or after cooking beef innards, your ol' factory senses are spot on.
I was humbled beyond expectation when Mr. Park remained attentive to our table the entire night. I don't know who enjoyed the dinner best, as Mr.Park kept a very enthusiastic gaze over my party while I took on the complete pleasure of enjoying my intestines! This is a man of high integrity and deep respect. Maybe it was the time of our visit, or how knowledgeable I was in the KBBQ scene. Perhaps it was because of the absolute fun atmosphere we created with the staff. We laughed and joked the night away, and made exciting memories. They gave my tofu soup complimentary. If your treatment was less than enthused, showing up to an all night eatery that focuses on exotic international cuisine are grounds for ordering more than shrimp or steak. You can eat that at home. Stop chastising a good business because you're running around Georgia late hours with your kids in the Audi, expecting people to throw themselves to the ground for you to step on. This world doesn't belong to you. You just happen...
Read moreI really do not like to leave bad reviews, but this particular experience was exceptional. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and there were only a few other parties in the restaurant. I was excited to try their BBQ, hot pot and sushi options. I immediately ordered 3 pieces of salmon nigiri, 4 meats for grilling, 4 meats for hot pot, and asked for noodles and veggies for the hot pot as well. I was told that all hot pot veggies and noodles were available at the buffet and I only needed to order hot pot meats.
So I immediately went to the buffet to get sauces, noodles, and vegetables. There were some premade sushi rolls in the buffet, a few hot dishes like japjae and bulgogi, and a few options for kids like fried chicken and French fries. I made a plate for myself of the japjae and bulgogi and got some fried chicken for my son, and my husband got some buffet sushi.
There were many sauce options, but they were out of soy sauce so I let the waitstaff who was refilling the buffet know. For hot pot I grabbed some fresh ramen, spinach, seafood balls, corn on the cob, and beech mushrooms. I let my waiter know that I couldn't find any cabbage or udon and he said they were refilling.
The bulgogi, japjae, and fried chicken were delicious so we were off to a good start. Hot pot soup bases were delivered and we waited expectantly for the pots to boil and our meats to be delivered. My husband got the special pork broth (delicious - best broth at the table), I got the mala (spice level was perfect but there was no flavor otherwise), and my son got the beef bone broth (decent but also bland). Additionally, my pot had so little broth that I couldn't cook my small corn on the cob in it and I had to ask for additional broth.
Unfortunately, the entire experience fell apart at this point. Only 2 of the 4 meats we ordered for hot pot was delivered, 2 of the 4 meats we ordered for BBQ was delivered, and the sushi was not delivered. I reminded our waiter about the sushi multiple times over the next hour and was told they were still making my 3 pieces of salmon nigiri, and after an hour we cancelled the order. I checked for soy sauce, udon and cabbage at the buffet for about 30 minutes before they finally refilled the station with these items. We ran out of time to eat and our other orders of BBQ and hot pot meats never arrived. Our waiter did not offer to cook the meats for us and every question was met with a very apathetic response and no sense of urgency.
Overall, our experience was terrible - we left hungry, and did not enjoy our meal. I will say that the owners appeared about 30 minutes after we arrived and we noticed that the buffet was getting refilled more regularly after their arrival. Plus we were able to get a few things by flagging down the other waiter who appeared attentive. In addition, since we didn't get the sushi we ordered, our waiter did change our bill so that we paid the lesser buffet option (without sushi) instead of the more expensive option.
But when we were charged an automatic gratuity of 18% for terrible service and missing food items... It was insult to injury. We had invited a couple of families to join us and we were so thankful they didn't make it as I would've been embarrassed to bring them for the experience we had.
I'm giving 2 stars because the owners were nice and the hot buffet food...
Read moreDrove by this restaurant and saw their banner for $25.99 AYCE. Thought why not, let's try it out. Reviewing my partner and I's experience here:
We were sat down immediately and were shown Menu A which was $29.99 and appeared to have significantly more options to pick from. Menu B was the advertised $25.99 price which was a very limited menu. We opted for Menu B just to try it out.
First course: pork belly. Taste was descent. Asked our server if I can cook my own meat because I'm very particular about the cross contamination and reusing the same tongs. They obliged. However another server came and tried to cook my piece of chicken on the plate as instill had the pork belly on it. I did not want raw chicken juices running to my cooked pork. Had to request again to let me cook my food.
Second course: garlic chicken. This actually tasted good. However midway through cooking one side of the chicken, a different server came by and just starting cutting the chicken (shredding to little pieces with dull scissors) when one side was still raw and now we have little chicken pieces sticking to the plate. Had to ask her to please let me cook my own food yet again.
Third course: beef brisket. This was the foulest of them all. As the bbq plate still had burnt bits of chicken on them, this new guy comes with the brisket and dumps in on the dirty hot plate. A piece falls out and he just takes the scissors and slaps it back in. At this point we were done with the meal and appetite was out the window.
We wanted to leave and asked for the check. To end the experience with a slap in the face, saw an automatic 20% gratuity added. Friends, I woulda happily paid the 20% gratuity had y'all just let me cook my food and stopped trying to give me food poisoning. And now I write this review as I'm sitting on the toilet so thanks for that. Hope y'all use that 20% for something nice.
Overall, there's much better KBBQ spots in the area around similar price range and I'd recommend those restaurants over this. Good ole bait and switch advertisement and hefty automatic gratuities with a side of food poisoning is not gonna cut it for me. Do...
