My girlfriend and I stopped in for brunch at 11 am on Saturday. We heard rave reviews and apparently they won an award for best breakfast in the twin ports. Being locals and not tourists, we know their is stiff competition for breakfast spots in the twin ports so we had high hopes. Our entire experience was disappointing.
First, we had a 40 minute wait to get a table which was fine becuase we were able go across the street to Dewitt-seitz and kill some time.
We got seated at a high top across from the bar and immediately were confused about the vibe. Their was pop country music blaring in the background and a college football game on a TV behind the bar. The rest of the place had an industrial look with photo prints of Northshore nature scenes adorning the walls.
We ordered our breakfast and it took longer than I'd expect to get our food which again, would have been fine except the server didn't offer to refill my coffee once during the entire meal. We both ordered from thier breakfast specialty menu. I got a country fried Ribeye steak with hashbrowns, eggs and a pancke. My girlfriend ordered thier homemade corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and toast.
My meal came and the breading on the steak was burnt, the sausage gravy was flavorless, and the steak was beyond over done. Also, I never got the pancake.
My girlfriend's meal came and it consisted of dried out bits of corn beef mixed with onions and a small amount of hashbrowns. Also she got over easy eggs instead of scrambled.
The bill came out to just under $50 for the two of us. We could have spent around that much at lake Ave across the street or a lot less one of the other breakfast diners for a much better dinning experience.
Do yourself a favor and choose one of other breakfast spots in duluth or superior. You'll probably have to since this place won't last long once the tourist...
Read moreWe were super excited to try this place. There was a line of people waiting to be seated. We got there around 10:30. We put our name in and were told it was going to be a 45 minute wait and we will receive a text when our table was ready. It ended up being more than an hour wait. I overheard the manager tell one of his staff that he texted people and they haven’t showed up yet and that he was waiting until they showed up because if he sat someone waiting and then they showed up he would have a problem. There were 5 open tables at this time. When we finally sat down it took about 10 minutes to put in a drink order. Then another 20 plus minutes to put in a food order. We received our caramel roll pretty quickly. This was the very best part of the meal, highly recommend this. It’s sweet and soft not too big. When we got our food it wasn’t hot. My stepson ordered a steak med rare, his came back rare (kicking & mooing) so he didn’t eat. We would have asked to have it put back on the grill but we were afraid that it would have not come back before we left. My husband ordered the county fried steak, it’s literally a steak that was battered and fried not ground steak like you would expect. He couldn’t eat it as it was rubbery. I had the salmon Benedict. That was pretty good. By the time we left it was almost 1pm. We are the family that eats and leaves we don’t sit and chit chat. We were there from 10:30 to 1pm.
If have open tables and people waiting ;along time) and the manager has sent a text to the next in line, wait 5 minutes for them to show up and if they don’t then you should seat the next person waiting, do not wait for the party to show up whenever they feel like it. You have customers standing there willing to pay for a meal. Either way you’re going to...
Read moreWe got 2 discount coupons from the attendant at the $8 daily parking booth. We walked down Canal Park district and spotted the place by the video game/laser tag place next door. We decided to go there for dinner after spending time walking around the Canal Park District. The server and hostess Natalie acknowledged us right away and told us to pick a table we like. We chose one by the window. Natalie was so awesome and very pleasant. She kept coming back to our table to ask us if we needed more water, or anything else. The price is just right for the amount of food we got. My husband ordered the walleye sandwich on a hoagie bun, fries, & a Castle Danger brew. I ordered the turkey melt, broccoli ham & cheese soup & their blueberry basil seltzer. OMG! The seltzer was amazing. Love the flavor. Will order again on next visit. A man approached us and asked us how the food was and we said everything was great. The tuna melt had generous amount of turkey & bacon. My husband said his fries were seasoned right. This man I believe is the owner of the restaurant then offered us mustard made in Hermantown where his first location opened. The mustard was so original. We never tasted anything like it. It had jalapeños, and other peppers mixed in, giving it a kick. The atmosphere was a nice place for socializing and have fellowship with others. I’m glad they started to open up for dinner. It was open for breakfast & lunch only. There’s much foot traffic to support this new establishment. Good place to have a nice drink, a good meal and hang out with pals. Why not give it a try! Thank you everyone at Social House, and the parking attendant who gave us the discount coupons. We will be recommending to...
