I was pleasantly surprised by this home cooking experience in Duncanville. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. I had baked chicken, butter beans, cabbage and cornbread on my meal. A beverage comes with it. I ordered a small peach cobbler as well. My chicken was fresh from the oven. I watched them bring it out. It actually reminded me of my mom's baked chicken. It was seasoned well and it was cooked to just the right temperature and texture. The next time I get by there, I'll try the fried pork chops. There are so many entree options! It was good to see a variety of meat options where they all looked tasty and are relatively affordable. Oh! And I love the part where they make you aware that certain entrees are cooked to order therefore there will be a small wait. I'm prepared to wait for my next visit.
I arrived around 11:45a on a Wednesday. There was a good flow of customers. There were no long lines. Customers weren't stepoing over each other inside. The owners were welcoming. They answered my questions about menu items. I didn't feel rushed to make my choices. The one guy (sorry no name available) even offered to let me taste the vegetables when I had a question about the seasoning in the beans. I didn't take him up on the offer, but it was a simple gesture that didn't go unnoticed.
Honestly, my food and experience here were both good. I actually called my dad as I sat in the parking lot and tasted my food. No worries. You can dine in. I'm just greedy. As I was devouring my chicken wing, I was telling my daddy how good the food was. He and my stepmother were there ordering within the hour. They enjoyed their food as well. Keep up the good work, ya'll. It was a refreshing experience.
Three suggestions: Please encourage your team to taste the food. If it's something they don't eat, make sure they at least have general knowledge of it. It might be helpful to have a small tasting at the beginning of the day for everyone. It's a pretty standard practice. It might be helpful. The young lady who helped me had no idea about the beans. She was sweet as pie. She was. And she was payient with me too. But if someone is serving the food, they should be able to tell me if something is seasoned to be spicey or not. Or even be able to make recommendations based on what they have tasted. Please speak up from behind that sneezeguard. And as a customer I'm going to remember to speak up too. It's hard for us old folks to hear you. I imagine it's not always easy to hear us from your side of the kitchen either. That lady at the front taking the money was so pretty when she smiled! But she didn't smile or say hello until I did. Maybe it was a bad moment for her. I hope to see her beautiful smile the next time I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was recommended to visit this restaurant, and I had a less than desireable experience with a male cashier, who told me I needed to pay $1.00 for a small plastic container if I wanted to put pinto beans in it To Go. If the restaurant had a sign posted stating an extra charge for the same small container they have peach cobbler in, I wouldn't be writing this review, however, because there wasn't a posted sign stating charges for To Go packaging, I decided not to eat at the restaurant. The cashier also took the pinto beans that the server had put in the small container for me, and he poured the beans back in the large pot with the rest of the beans, for sale for customers which was unsanitary since the cashier was on the register and never washed his hands, before coming to the food serving line, where he told the server I had to pay for the small container for pinto beans. This cashier caused the restaurant to lose $48.00 over a 10 cents container, because he wanted to charge me an extra dollar for a small container for pinto beans. i had ordered the fried lamb chops which are $30 plus tax, and each side I was going to order was $3 plus the peach cobbler too. So, obviously he was an employee who didn't care about losing the restaurant money or he may have been a manager/owner who wasn't a very wise businessman to lose a potential customer and sale, over an upcharge on a small container. I personally don't know what the food taste like, because I canceled my order and took my business to a restaurant where I always receive great customer service. I would never want to recommend any of my love ones or friends to go to a restaurant where you feel like the worker(s) are charging you double for the food and To Go containers too. Unfortunately, this restaurant will continue to suffer financial loss, until they train their staff in better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI got the turkey wings over dirty rice, with Mac n cheese and yams. The flavor of the Turkey wing Gravy was DELICIOUS. The turkey wings themselves were dry and Bland. The Mac n cheese was HORRIBLE. It tasted Sour or Tangy or something. The yams were GOOD! The Peach Cobbler Crust had so much graduated sugar... Like so much .. I ate a clump of sugar. The peaches were good And the Kool aid was served w no ice.. so it was tap water warm.. lol.
I won't be returning because of the food... I could have just got the wrong thing that day. May have been an off day. I won't be returning because of the TERRIBLE Customer Service. That old lady don't wanna work there... Her Energy tells it all. It's like she HAS to be there and she doesn't want to. She was one of the Rudest individuals I've experienced in a while expecting to receive money for service....
The price of the food was great for the portion size. But If Customers don't meet you with negative attitudes don't give it to us. We didn't force you to work there. And for that I won't be returning. I don't really...
