Reposting my review here since the restaurant seems to be listed twice in the same location. I should also mention that the owner's father saw fit to argue with my review in the comments when I posted it on Facebook.
I discovered and came to enjoy Dickey's a few years ago when I lived in Montana where there were a few locations scattered around the state. I was excited to see that one had opened in Dundee, and I stopped by for lunch as soon as I got the chance.
I ordered my usual two meat plate with pulled pork and brisket, which comes with two sides. An overzealous woman I took to be the manager interrupted my conversation with the employee taking my order to ask if I wanted to upgrade my bread. I politely declined, and she rung me up. I was slightly surprised to see my meal would be setting me back nearly $20 before a tip, but it had been a few years since I had been to a Dickey's, and inflation is a thing, so I didn't give the price a second thought. The same woman made sure to throw more marketing at me as we concluded the transaction, advising that if I brought my cup back, I could refill it for a dollar, and that I should scan my receipt with their app to get points for discount meals on subsequent visits.
I don't mind paying a premium price for a premium product, but sadly, what I got was anything but premium. The pork and brisket were room temperature, the beans were oddly seasoned and tasted off, and the coleslaw was little more than dry cabbage. The soft serve ice cream machine offering all customers complimentary cones that was present in every Dickey's I ever visited out west was nowhere to be found here. Its absence did nothing to enhance my perception of the value for my money.
To add insult to injury, the meal went right through me so to speak, and I had to stop and ruin a public bathroom on my way home. It was enough to make me wonder exactly how long that room temperature meat had been sitting out.
If this Dickey's wants repeat business, they should focus on giving customers a positive experience and a premium, untainted product for their money rather than encouraging them to wash and bring their cups back in or download an app that harvests their data. I'm deeply disappointed that the Dickey's nearest me bears little resemblance to the Dickey's I came to love in Montana. I won't be returning, and if you value your money and your gastrointestinal health,...
Read moreThey steer people to the app but most of the employees don't understand how it works and can't troubleshoot it. There are times in-stock items were unavailable on the app, or even worse, out-of-stock items were available.
The last time I went in I was told chicken was out of stock but that I could wait for it or swap it with other meats (which I was not interested in but sadly already paid on the app so a refund wasn't an option). I came back after about 40 minutes and it still wasn't ready. I waited and waited.... and waited... Finally, when it was ready, I get out to my car and they forgot some of our sides. I had to go back in for what I recall as the 3rd or 4th time for the same order. They gave me 3 of these "free pork sandwich" coupons, but I only liked the chicken. I wouldn't ever use a pork sandwich coupon. Offering a coupon for something as restrictive as a pork sandwich is an empty gesture at best.
The worst part of that experience was getting home to eat it. Best way to describe it is to say that you could taste that it was rushed. Right down to the texture of the meat. I'd have rather had a refund right away than have waited over an hour for something we ultimately ended...
Read moreI welcome Dickey's BBQ to Dundee, Michigan. I never dined at one until they opened here. The owners and staff are very nice and aim to please. I have already made 21 visits since they opened. The food is good and they have a huge menu to choose from. If you download their app on your phone, free food and discounts can add up fast. Just scan your receipt in the app and start accumulating savings. I hope people with negative comments and reviews will please be fair to this business. They are new and have kinks to work out just like any other restaurant. If you have complaints about the prices or portions, etc, you should contact the Dickey's Home Office. It is their rules they have to follow. It's not fair to bash the owners and this restaurant location. I don't have any complaints about my food or service. Prices and portions are not any different than many restaurants. Please be kind and understanding. I'm sure they would...
