Veskolini Cafe — Restaurant in Dunedin

We used to frequent this coffee shop. It is quite cute. Their espresso is excellent. The last time we were in there fairly early in the morning, the bench seats were really dirty. Not just with food crumbs but lint and threads. They obviously had not cleaned it from the day(s) before.

But the real shock is the price of their food and pastries. The menu that is posted on this site is dated. Most all of their pastries for example, are $10! $10 for small slice of cake when it was $7 just last summer! Their breakfast menu has also become quite expensive.

We understand that the cost of labor and goods have gone up. But they do not make the pastries there. They are brought in from elsewhere.

It is evident that Veskolini is marketing itself primarily for tourists, which is unfortunate. Locals do not frequent this coffee shop because it is way more expensive than so many other local but excellent independent coffee...

Veskolini is slightly “off the beaten path” in Dunedin but it’s worth the small venture to come here! It’s only a few minutes walk from downtown and there are a few parking spots in front of the cafe as well.

This is a great place to hang out for awhile, do work, homework or read or whatever. We sat for a few hours with coffee and breakfast getting stuff done and there were a handful of others doing the same. It’s a nice atmosphere as well- not too loud and kind of peaceful.

They have some good breakfast options, and delicious homemade pastries. We had really wanted to try the rainbow cake as we had seen pictures prior to coming, but it must be popular because they said they were out that day. Oh well, just will have to come back.

It was kind of expensive for everything here, but it was at least good. The coffee was enjoyable and strong, and my bagel sandwich was fresh...
