I was very disappointed with my recent rental. We were a bit late into town. They were open later than the competitors and had a couple of decent reviews. We figured we would give them a try. Now had I checked the pricing before renting that would have been enough to send to me the competitor down the street. I mean boot rentals that are 130% more expensive than the competitor up the street. The snowboard were 20% more expensive. But I told myself, hey I don’t have to wait until morning when I was there and saw the rates.
What was the kicker was once on the mountain. One of the crew was complaining his board didn’t feel right. After a few runs, we uncovered the issue. The mount was loose. So much for paying up for quality control. Now this is spring skiing and I am no expert but I have been boarding for 15 years. My board just wasn’t gripping the mountain right especially on the steeper slopes. At lunch, I ask the on slope repair outfit what could be the issue. They tell me it is the edge. Well we make the best of things and have fun despite the rental equipment.
Well, I take the rentals back and inform them of the issues. They verify the issues. I stand there after their verification and acknowledgement in what can be called that uncomfortable silence that occurs at times between two parties. Until well you are good to go is said. What kind of customer services is that? I guess paying a premium doesn’t provide even an apology let alone any other type guarantee of a quality product. I mean people hit the mountain a couple of times a year, plan, make time, take vacation days, travel, rent rooms, and etc to have great time only to have a subpar experience due to the rentals. And to add insult to injury, not to be offered even apology let alone any type of discount or refund. I will NOT rent at the Ski Barn during my...
Read moreMy family and I have been loyal Ski Barn patrons for 10+ years. We have rented all of our kids seasonal ski/snowboard rentals and always shop there for our winter (and summer) sports needs. We frequent their South location - the staff is knowledgeable and so kind. Recently, my 11 year old son had his skis picked up (hopefully by accident) at Chapman. I put him in charge of calling the store and asking if they had been turned in. We decided to later stop in to see how much he would owe for the skis so he could start saving up. Though the staff hadn’t (darn!) seen the skis returned, the staff jumped in and went above and beyond what we could have ever expected and offered to get him replacement skis in the interim to ensure his season wasn’t over. We mourned a lot that day before going in about how he couldn’t ski anymore - a season cut short! We were not expecting to leave with skis and just figured this would be a hard lesson learned and his season was over with no skis. My son left so relieved and commented over and over how nice everyone was to him. A huge weight was lifted! It turned a really painful situation into one a little less dismal. We cannot say enough great things about Ski Barn even before this incident - but they really will take care of you no matter what! They have a great inventory, friendly pricing for families trying to make snow sports a reality for their families and really make you feel like you’re one of the fam! Thanks team - keep up the good work. We have a sweet boy that’s sleeping a lot easier knowing he can still ski this season (and ramping up on chores in case he needs to replace “stolen” skis in the event they’re not returned). Thanks again for going above and beyond for our family! We’ll never...
Read moreLet me previse this review by stating my family and I used Ski Barn on main street a few times in the past with great service. I even replaced my old K2s with a purchase of new Armadas- with their help. On this occasion, during the holidays of 2024, we were met with rudeness, callousness and lack of professionalism. The employees literally sat around and talked about their personal lives (within ear shot of us) while I attempted to rent ski equipment for my wife and daughter. When we walked in, rather then being greeted, we were met with "do you have reservations", "its our busiest time of the year". Duh. I realize its the holidays. That's why we are in Durango. He then pointed us to these "new" terminals in the lobby and said "we have a new system", "you need to go over there and request what you want". Then turned away. Whew. Thanks for the help. We walked over to the terminals and couldn't figure out the system (didn't want to order and pay for something we didnt want). We asked a different employee for help and he had zero clue about this "new system". We promptly left and went to Purgatory Ski on Main St. We got what we needed (with great service). Thank God for having choices, business competition and free enterprise. I'll gladly spend my money elsewhere. Your arrogance Ski Barn will cost you more customers...
