I just wanted to make you aware Ken, that my family and I was supporting you every week when you had tents on 8 & Gratiot. Then one Sarurday I convinced two other friends that you had the best bbq in the area. So I stood in that very long line and purchased 2 slabs, corn, and strawberry lemonade for $60+ for my friends and myself. I drove back to Clinton Twp only to find containers full of burned meat! I immediately messaged you on Fb and explained. You apologized and said you'd replace it. (((I still have our messages in my phone!))) Because I had to go to work, I didn't come until the following weekend. When I told you who I was and why I was there, you just looked at me and said I'll talk to you. I stood there about 20 minutes while you did a few things. I moved closer so you could see me and I signaled you, I thought you could've forgotten about me. Once again, you looked at me and kept on keeping on. After about 15 more minutes, I signaled you again, like hey did you forget about me? Still no response or effort. I left. I said lesson learned to never spend another dollar with your business. Well when you moved into your brick and mortar, I figured you'd be professional since you'd want to bring in even more business, I was wrong! Please don't think that I'm just trying to get a free meal, I wouldn't accept it if you did offer. But I'm a huge fan of ribs. I have many posts and pics of ribs that I traveled to the Westside and even all the way Downriver just to get. I thought your business would forever be our rib spot since it was closer to us. I gave you 3 stars because up until the burnt ribs, your ribs, corn & lemonade had...
Read moreOn Friday 7/22, I was so excited to get my first taste on Big Ken Bar-B-Q, this year and first time buying from inside the restaurant. I had purchased ribs, corn and lemonade from under the yellow tent and them still outside behind the building. never disappointed until now. I spent $95, my slab of ribs was not a tender as before and very salty, 4 hot wings were too salty, order of nacho with beef, made with baked beans that where too sweet for nachos and the nachos chips served under the dish were soggy when I arrived home. I bought $6.00 peach cobbler, very good, but a rip off the container was less than 1/4 filled, please check the peach cobbler and ask for another if barely filled. Please get some cup holders for the lemonade, I bought 3, one had almost totally leaked out into the plastic bag. I bought a few sides baked beans. Potatoe salad and 1 coleslaw. Those were ok. My sausage was delicious, my lemonade and I bought 4 Mexican corn. Corn & Lemonade, were delicious, but not enough for me to return since I travel from the West side. I asked for the spicey sauce, was told "we only have it on Spicey Wednesday" . I would recommend that you carry both sauces all the time! This is really 2.5 stars, unfortunately now that you are more commercialized that you may losing some of personal touch. Happy to support my black businesses but it has to be consistently good, I had bragged and 2 others with me. 😩😩😩 There too were disappointed...
Read moreMy very first time trying to Ken’s was great! My second time which was at the location on Gratiot was shaking.. the chicken wings were seasoned by someone who was clearly mad because they were extra salty not to mention dry.The ribs were ok. Third time terrible I ordered half a slab of ribs that had we boiled and then but on the smoker or grill because I could bite thru the bone I mean like it was SOFT which could happen no other way but to boil them. Fourth time was better but the fifth time I requested a refund I got rib tips without sauce. All the rib tips had sauce on them which by the way wasn’t sauced in the normal bbq sauce or someone didn’t know how to make it. You could tell it was open pit for sure due to the coloring that open pit does when put on meat and plus it smelled like open pit. Not a good look! In the restaurant business consistency is the key and this is something Ken’s needs to seriously work on because when I was there another customer came back with their food complaining about the ribs having no seasoning. Not the mention the young unprofessional cashiers taking orders. One time it was a conversation about a boyfriend, the next time it was a profanity filled conversation and the last time it was the cashier picking meat out her teeth while in front and taking orders that did it for me! I really hope you work on these things because you have great food… just not all the time ! I just know I won’t be back.....
