We stopped in as we haven't been here in years. We were greeted promptly by a new server who was in training. She was pleasant, great smile and personality. She took our drink order promptly and brought them back in a timely manner. She apologized several times stating she was new, which we assured her it was fine and we understood. We had questions about what we wanted to chose off the menu for our meals. We, each had picked out the antipasto salad, and we were inquiring as to how big a 1-3 person salad verse a 4 or more person salad was. She seemed confused by this, which I just chalked it up to being new and still learning the menu. She started to take our order and with one of the salad, there were some changes to what the salad came with, and she seemed confused again and had to check the menu to see what was in the salad. Maybe she was trying to spell the ingredients correctly? We received our salads, and they did look quite pleasing to the eye. The only thing we would suggest is to get the dressing on the side, as ours had way to much dressing on them. Overall the experience was good and would recommend coming here for a good meal as they offer a variety of style of pizzas, salad, pastas, sandwiches and various drinks. They did offer us if we wanted dessert or anything else which was fine. What struck us was when the bill was dropped. It was under $20, so we gave a $20 & the coin change and the trainer walk away to go get change. We had left the tip on the table for the waitress. What struck a nerve was when the trainer dropped our change back at the table, she went to making a comment "and here is your $2 dollars!" Thinking she wasn't being left a tip. Since, I was in the industry for 17 years it is usually customary that most guest would say " keep the change!" The comment was made in jest of believing she wasn't getting a tip. Like we stated, we would recommend coming here and we would state to ask for this particular wwaitress or even the waitress in training, but unfortunately, they didn't gave us their name. They accept cash, credit cards, and have lots of parking and room for large parties

On my journey of finding the best, most authentic Detroit style pizza, Cloverleaf definitely comes in near the top of the list. The restaurant is in a very unassuming location but very easy to access. When you first walk in feels like you’re walking into any other locally owned family restaurant, although it’s hard to miss the giant neon cloverleaf hanging from the ceiling, a gentle reminder that you’ve made to THE Cloverleaf Bar and Restaurant. Upon taking our seats at a booth it was apparent that this place is known as a local gem and family favorite. The wall furnishings told the rich history of the owners and their culture. It was hard not to notice the antique black and white photographs of children, decorative dinnerware, and Italian phrases decorating the walls. Moving onto the food, my friend and I ordered a large pizza and split the toppings half and half as I don’t eat pepporoni. I got jalepenos and black olives on my half. I was very satisfied by the amount of toppings. But, most people know the quality of Detroit style pizza lies in the crust. This pizza had a delicious crispy crust around the edges but unfortunately was lacking in structure towards the middle. I guess you could say the mushiness in the middle made the crust that much more enjoyable. Nonetheless, I had the feeling that I was enjoying an authentic Detroit style pizza. Overall, I was impressed by how well this place has preserved the uniqueness local family owned restaurant rooted in history. Would definitely think of this place when recommending an authentic Detroit style pizza experience.

My family and I are touring the Northern states of the US. Our first night in Detroit was special because we tried their iconic pizza that’s loved nationwide. The moment that we crossed the border, we went straight to Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant. Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant played a big part of Detroit’s pizza history. After Gus Guera left Buddy’s, he opened up Cloverleaf. Detroit style is deep dish. We took two small pizzas, the first of which was just pepperoni. We were dumbfounded. This was an enlightening experience: pizza can be THIS good…. The pepperoni wasn’t spicy (a positive for me), but the CHEESE. It was stretchy and soo flavourful. I also observed how the crust was buttery and fluffy. I’ve never been a “corner guy”, but sure as hell was today. I’ll give this 10/10. Our second pizza wall all cheese. It mind-bogglingly bested the first one. Its greatness was infinite and as close to 11/10 as you can get! I got bread pudding for dessert. It was ruined by too much cinnamon, but my parents cleaned up after me. For me, it was 6/10. The bill was $36.70 USD. It would be a crime to visit Detroit and not have pizza. There are many pizzerias and opinions may differ somewhat, but Cloverleaf sits at the very top.

Our family used to frequent this establishment many years ago and I can remember an entirely different service atmosphere. On a Sunday night, I felt it was time for my children to experience this local pizza icon. Unfortunately, this experience was a sorry shadow of what I recalled. My family was cast aside in favor of the multiple parties that surrounded our corner booth and we could barely get attention from the waitress. After struggling for attention for over an hour (as we were very patient) the waitress stated she was going to acquire our pizza. Approximately 20 minutes later we were informed that the manager was on the way to speak to us. Obviously, there was an issue and we again waited patiently for the manager. However, the waitress had to flag the manager down in front of the table to stop and address our situation. We listened as the explanation about losing our order was presented, but at no time did the manager appear to be truly in tune with the situation. Our children are young and have been relatively good, but we have waited an hour and a half to eat while occupying our kids. Nothing was even presented other than a quick "I'm sorry" and assurance that the pizza would be ready in 15 minutes. At the very least the poor consideration by this staff, the fact that we had two children who were becoming impatient during the long ordeal and flippant way the management apology occurred - something should have been done to win our patronage over. Since nothing of the sort was forthcoming, we chose to leave as it was clear we were not appreciated. My wife took my keys and got my children in the family vehicle while I waited to deal with whatever portion of the bill had been received. Please note, I waited for that bill. I put on my coat, went to the front desk and waited again. The bill was brought to me and I paid it, even tipped the waitress as I feel she was clearly overwhelmed and under supported by the establishment leadership. My disappointment with this experience could not have been more complete at that point. It is with sincerity and sadness that I will no longer provide my patronage to this local icon. While my review could have been laced with the anger over how my family was handled, it is my belief that any business who has lost the vision to see through the customers eyes will not last. Perhaps this review will provide them those glasses and they can...

General Manager needs to retire - Unbelievably rude and unprofessional!

Decided to stop in with my niece and my mother because we have not been in for a while (Cloverleaf has been a family favorite for MANY years- we have had several parties there). The three of us ordered the lunch buffet. The buffet was NOT stocked. I went up first while mom stayed with the toddler and had some pasta and french fries. By the time my mother went up, the pizza was literally GONE, NO soup, and NO salad.

Mom sat back down and decided to order a Reuben instead. It took 20 minutes for the sandwich to come out. The bread was soggy with butter and all of the meat was on one side.

I went up two more times attempting to get a couple slices of pizza…took about 15 mins to actually grab two slices for myself.

I asked to speak to the manager. I told her that it was not a very good experience for my mother. She started to get defensive. FIRST stating that she kept the buffet stocked (wish I would have taken photos for this review) and THEN telling me that there were “35” people there and it was not her fault.

I told her that we have been coming there for years and that I was just letting her know that we did not have a pleasant experience. She said she would give us 50% of the sandwich and abruptly left the table.

WHILE we were waiting our bill, I could hear the MANAGER talking about us and that it was not their fault because they were busy.

I pad for the bill and asked the cashier if that was the general manager and she said “Yes, did I know her”, I told her that “she was not a very pleasant person”…after that I went to grab my niece and walked toward the door to leave and heard the manager and cashier AGAIN (in the kitchen) complaining about us.

Very sad what this place has...
