Best British Food in Denver!
British cuisine can be... Well, gross and boring. Definitely not the case here at GBs! Everything is simply prepared and totally delicious. Their claim to fame is definitely the fish & chips. Great options such as cod, prawns, and scallops all fried in a crisp traditional batter fresh to order. Plank steak fries on the side are delicious, but they also have some serious other sides if you want.
If you're not feeling fish, they have many other great entrƩes like bangers & mash or meat pies (the chicken is awesome) that are done extremely well; flavorful and delicious! Dessert options including deep-fried oreos round off the menu well for an indulgent end to your meal.
The service is always pretty good for quick-service-casual and I always feel welcome. Nothing bad about it, but not truly exceptional either. The clientele is very diverse so you get everything from families to hipsters to bar rats. It overall comes off as an upscale dive. The decor and ambiance definitely contribute to that. Football flags/jerseys everywhere, some nautical themed posters, bar games, a very specifically curated UK-oriented beer selection... All plays to a kind of theme that makes this place very unique and interesting for Colorado.
This is definitely one of my favorite places to go for a quick delicious dinner. If you frequent the restaurant, they have a pretty good rewards program that earns you free food or merch after a while. They have a few locations around town that are all just the same, so definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRan across this little place and decided to give it a whirl!! When I pulled in according to the parking lot, the place looked like it would be full at lunch. It was definitely not. Not a lot of parking here due to them having a "shared" parking lot. You walk in and go into line to order at the counter, and you're given a pager for when your order is ready. This is all self-serve kind of place, very your own tea, sodas, etc. The fish and chips were fantastic, I ordered the half cod and fries. Along with a cup of New England clam chowder. The batter on the fish was good, a crispy, not over cooked what so ever, yet the fish on the inside was most white like cotton. The fries were the same way, slightly crispy on the outside and soft center. The chowder was rock and creamy with a great clan taste, lots of little chunks of potatoes, it was excellent. However, you people need to use salt, salt adds flavor, and brings out the natural flavor in food. This is a problem in the world today. Everywhere, salt is good for you, and a little makes the food pop. The only thing was zero service, no table service, sorry, I like being waited on. No table service is like paying big box chains to check yourself out and bag your own stuff. Stop. The major dink here is price, $17.50 just for fish and chips??? Way over priced for the portions you get. 2 of us were high forties, nah, I'm not doing that, I'm glad this meal was bought for me. However, if you're in the area, you stop in and make up your on mind....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR: best fish and chips you can get. This location has the best view and vibe out of all of them. 1 Order some cod, curry and chips. 2 Dip "chips" into curry 3 Put vinegar on fish, then dip into tarter 4 Reminisce in all its Glory 5 Wonder "How much would I have to run to eat this every day?"
GBs has the best fish and chips I've ever had, anywhere. Hands down. I think that fish and chips has 3 parts to what make it good. The batter and fish. If the batter or fish are bad, the first has failed. GBs has never disappointed. They have the most perfect batter and their fish is buttery and succulent.
The chips. If they're just fries, it's not the same, if they're too soft, it doesn't work. GBs chips are like crispy on the outside soft on the inside dipping sticks. They can scoop up some of that delicious curry sauce š like it's their job!
The tarter sauce. I thought I didn't like tarter sauce or fish and chips (coleslaw too..) for my whole life until I came to GBs... Something about how they make this magical concoction makes me into a mayo fiend. (Not really a huge fan of mayo) I now have to order their large side, because no way will 2 ketchup cups worth cut it..
Go get some GBs they have cheap pbrs good food, darts, rugby, music, what more...
