If you’re thinking of going here for breakfast, I recommend reconsidering. I hate leaving negative reviews as I know they can be somewhat damaging (especially for take-out as dine-in is usually a bit better).
However, what on earth… are these portion sizes of an order over $30 for me for me, just one person. Syrup legitimately ripped me off which hasn’t happened to me before.
This $7+ (w/ tax) latte well under half way full and unfortunately, I paid extra for whip cream which was not on it. The pictures in this review are the coffee drink before taking a sip which was cold without flavoring.
The latte and the food - everything was cold. Not lukewarm - cold as if it had been sitting out for a quite a while without a heat lamp above it. Poorly packaged. The Biscuits & gravy, the latte, measly sized French toast pictured, all of it was cold and unfortunately, the French toast was so, so small and wet/soggy. Not even an average French toast which surprised me the most as Syrup’s French toast & pancakes are supposed to be great.
The latter is genuinely the most frustrating part as this is such a big waste of money and expensive. I worked in restaurants for many, many years including breakfast spots and simply can’t understand how the volume of the latte would even pass a quality check to make it in a cup and out the door. The team has to be aware of what they are serving in terms of volume for coffee. The cup is so light in weight?
Very disappointing - I hope the owner reaches out not even to refund me (which would be great) but to apologize for cheating me due to the low, low volume of the latte alone.
This restaurant came recommended to me by family which is why I came in so I assumed big portion sizes & warm food. To give Syrup the benefit of the doubt, maybe dine-in is the only way to go and potentially better. However, there is simply no excuse for cheating a customer especially on a late Monday morning in comparison to a busy Sunday...
Read moreIt’s easy to see why Syrup is a popular place to go for breakfast. They have a wide variety of options for everyone, and there’s plenty of free parking in the lot next to the public market. Their most popular dishes are the Nutella stuffed French toast and chicken and waffles, which are great for people wanting a heavy & sweet breakfast.
A good compromise and sharing complement is the combo of The Garden Omelet and The Remedy Classic. The Garden Omelet can be a little dry, and felt like it could be improved by the vegetables inside being cooked a little longer or adding a sauce. The Remedy was very liquid and had extra sauce. By putting The Remedy on top of the omelette, it was a perfect breakfast.
The Remedy ($15) includes diced potatoes topped with chorizo, cheddar cheese, onion, roasted red pepper, avocado, 2 eggs any style (we requested over easy but they were more over-medium), and grilled jalapeño, smothered in pork green chili.
The Brooklyn Omelet ($16) sounded good, with their award winning corned beef hash, but since we already had meat in The Remedy we went with The Garden. The Garden Omelet ($14) comes with asparagus, mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini, squash (I didn’t see any), and feta, and you can pay extra for a side of berries instead of...

Ordered a takeout meal through DoorDash (because that is the company the restaurant chooses to go through) and there was an estimated wait time of 20-30 min. We got there 30 min after we ordered. We were sent to the bar to wait. We waited 30 minutes and saw people walking in getting their food immediately. We got the attention of the staff member that brings out takeout, he then huddled with another employee at the bar and they discussed our receipt. Then he just walked away from us, with a quick “Let me check that.” We wait another 30 minutes. I go to the host and ask for some help. She tells me to talk to the people at the bar. After she sees there is actually no one there, she goes to the kitchen to get an update on our order. We had been waiting so far a total of 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES. She comes back and says it will take probably another 10 minutes. We ask for a refund, she leaves, talks to the manager, comes back, and says we need to do it through DoorDash. Essentially, it was our problem. We ordered? Waited and still no food? Our problem. No sorry, acknowledgment, or ideas on rectifying the situation. We walked out.
If you decide to eat here, dine in only where they actually care about you...
