Distinctive, creative Japanese style Poke: This recently opened restaurant food stand provides new choices for Japanese specialty dishes not usually seen until now, at least in Colorado. As a fan of seafood Poke bowls, I was immediately attracted to Mugi, instead of its neighboring choices in the trendy Edgewater Marketplace. The Poke choices are extensive, affordable and , sometimes, generously portioned. The best deal: a 32 oz. Large bowl, which includes three scoops of protein. (total $13.95; if you are not hungry a small is $9.95) I chose Spicy Tuna which was mashed rather than chunks but very tasty. (salmon, non-spicy tuna, Shrimp, chicken or tofu also offered) You have six additional choices to make: the base (I had brown rice, or you can have salad or white); a "mix-in" (green onion for me); 6 types of sauce (soy or spicy sirracha), also salad (I chose Octopus); then two toppings moist and dried. (I chose radish and Fried onion tempura) for a 32 oz large dish. This was a unique explosion of flavors; yet made to order for all who enjoy raw seafood. The Tofu or Chicken options make this an all-purpose choice. Due to COVID rules on-site eating is outdoors, or easily made for take-out. In summary, the best Poke experience since a trip to Hawaii! Their ten different Ramen offerings (each $12.95) look interesting, for a future visit. Mugi is worth the trip - easy to reach by car, about 2 miles west of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot great. The lady was kinda rude and quoted 5 to 20 min, which seemed odd. When my pager went off to pick it up less than 5 min later, she used her gloved hand to touch the pager after I and who knows who else touched it, and then she went back to making a bowl.
There was a lot I was disappointed with in the bowl. I got one scoop of regular and one scoop of spicy tuna. The tuna tasted pretty fresh but there was only like 5 cubes of it, they were fairly big though. Lots of spicy tuna, it was very light pink like there was a lot of mayo in it but it tasted good, not really spicy. There was less than a tablespoon of crab salad. There were 4 pieces of pineapple but two were mostly inedible because there was a lot of the core still attached. A tablespoon of shredded carrots. The edamame tasted weird and fermented so I decided not to eat it. One of the 4 slices of cucumber I got was very bitter, like it was soaked in a chemical or something so I immediately spit it out. It was very bizarre. I stopped eating when I got the weird cucumber.
Based on the poor knife skills I saw in the badly cut vegetables, the clear misunderstanding of food safety procedures, the small portions, the concerning edamame and scary bite of cucumber, I think I won't go back. It doesn't seem like there is a professional who knows what they are doing involved in prep and training and I don't want to get sick and also spend $20 on very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter reading some other reviews, I agree with a couple negatives and a lot of positives. The service was fantastic. The staff were friendly and food came out very quickly. The facility was clean and well-kept. The dishes were tasty and prices were reasonable. The pork slices in the ramen, are distinctly more flavorful than Mr. Ramen off Jordan. On the other hand, yes it's a bummer they use a lot of single-use plastic but that should be a suggestion to the staff not a reason for one star Google review. The broth tasted a tad more concentrated, like it could use a little diluting with pork broth but not water. Also their portions are a happy medium. Two slices of meat is the same as every ramen place I've been to, but I do wish I got more than one piece of bok choy and one piece of fish cake. I was very pleased with our visit and will definitely...
