Deccan Spice is a remarkable dining destination that combines great Indian cuisine with an unforgettable atmosphere. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by a beautifully designed interior that fuses traditional Indian elements with modern aesthetics, creating a warm and inviting environment. What truly sets Deccan Spice apart is its vibrant atmosphere, especially during the weekends when the restaurant features live music. The dynamic performances add an exciting flair to the dining experience, creating a lively backdrop while you enjoy your meal. The combination of great music and delicious food elevates the overall ambiance, making it a perfect place for gatherings with friends or family celebrations. The standout feature of Deccan Spice is its unique serviceāfeaturing a robot that assists in delivering food to the table! This innovative technology is not only efficient but also adds an element of fun to the dining experience. Watching the robot glide through the restaurant, bringing dishes to eager diners, is a spectacle in itself, seamlessly blending modernity with the traditional art of Indian hospitality. Now, onto the food! The menu offers a wide array of authentic Indian dishes, and we were eager to explore its offerings. We began with the Samosa Chaat, which was an incredible blend of crispy samosas topped with tangy chutneys and yogurt, bursting with flavors in every bite. For the main course, the Chicken Biryani was a standoutāaromatic basmati rice cooked to perfection with tender pieces of chicken, it was a aromatic and flavorful dish that truly satisfied. The Butter Chicken was another highlight, creamy and rich with just the right amount of spices, making it a must-try for anyone visiting. The naan was fluffy and went wonderfully with the sauces, while the variety of vegetarian options on the menu ensured that everyone in our party found something to love. Service at Deccan Spice was excellent, with friendly staff members who were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The unique concept of having a robot assist the waitstaff only added to the experience, allowing the team to focus on providing stellar service. In conclusion, Deccan Spice is a hidden gem in Edison that perfectly blends great Indian cuisine with an extraordinary dining experience. The combination of wonderful food, vibrant live music, and innovative service with the food-delivering robot creates a memorable outing that is hard to match. Whether youāre a fan of Indian cuisine or just looking for a unique dining experience, Deccan Spice is a place you wonāt want to miss. Iām already looking forward to...

We were in the area for some gold shopping and decided to try this. Entered, the receptionist attended to us and directed us to the Lounge area while the table was getting ready. It took a few minutes, but we got the table in under 10 minutes.
Not sure, but all the tables were not occupied, and still somehow restaurant looks like it crowded.
Ok, I might sound cheap, but the first thing I noticed is itās overpricing items on the menu: considering the locality, I am eating, itās too much. For a beer, they were charging $9-13/bottle.
We ordered (below) and waited around close to 40 minutes.
Amritsari Chicken tikka: it was cooked in tandoor but why it was chewy? Except for the presentation, nothing was good here.
Old Delhi Butter chicken: the only item which I found good. 4/5. But no Delhi taste, please!
Rogan Josh: not sure why the restaurant named it Rogan josh. You are nowhere near to Rogan josh (name itĆ ā Rogan Josh but not Kashmiri Rogan joshā). Pieces are supposed to be soft (not very soft), and pieces should be leaving their bones, but your pieces are hard to bite.
Donāt use the same pieces in all the mutton/goat dishes. I would not have written in detail about the dish, but you are upscaled dine-in, so you need to know what you are serving. In fact, learn from Brar videos. He recently posted a video about it.
Garlic Naan: it was basically a Maida roti in tandoor. Did not feel like I was eating naan. -$8/naan.
Beers. Spent over 45 on 3 beers. Too expensive.
And what about the water? Been to like 100s of INDIAN restaurants in the North Jersey area and never I paid for the water (itās not NYC upscaled restaurants, mind it)
The only options for water you can get- Still, sparkling, and none. We paid $9 per bottle.
Yeah yeah ā Robot brings your food, very fancy. Pls take care of the service, reduce the waiting time to bring the food to the table, and improve the quality of dishes ā I donāt fancy robot waiters.
Coming to gratuity: I did not find it written on Menu that gratuity is included in the final check. Not cool. And we were a party of 4 only, I thought if it was more than 4, then the gratuity gets added to the bill.
we paid $200+ for 4 people.
Food- 2.5/5
Service- 2/5
Price- 1.5/5
Ambiance- 4/5
Overall- 2.5/5
Except for the ambiance -I did not find anything else appealing and though I hearty support Indian restaurants (my 70% reviews belong to restaurants and half of them are Indian). I am not seeing myself...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLiterally the best Indian food in Edison NJ, which is a bold statement. From classics such as Saag Paneer to fusion items like Manchurian cauliflower, to avant garde takes on other cuisines like Lobster Bisque, their chef nails them all.
This is one of those places where you put a bite in your mouth and wonder how exactly the chef managed to get exactly that combination of spices into each mouthful. Sweet, spicy, savory. Surprising flavors, perfect textures. Vegetables are always at just that soft snap, and meats have the resilient but tender mouth feel that speaks to long slow time on low heat gently melting together.
Do yourself a favor and try at least one of the soups - they're all delightful. Try something you've never heard of, maybe from the Chefs Special list. Get an old favorite. Deccan Spice will knock them all out of the park.
The decor is just right for a date night with your significant other, definitely worthy of the spiffy outfit. They have a full bar with both American standards and Indian cocktails.
Dessert is fine but unremarkable. We have taken to simply heading over to one of the many Indian sweet shops in the area for our after-dinner gulab jamun or kir with chai.
If nothing else, go to gawk at the two serving robots that augment their service staff. These fun gadgets bring food to the table and bus empties. All servers take orders on hand held devices, another way management is using technology to streamline his operation.
Sadly, service is the only area not top-notch at Deccan Spice. Their servers seem overworked and a bit undertrained. Indeed management spoke of labor challenges - quite common going into 2022 and out of the COVID pandemic. We've experienced a fair amount of delay and confusion on orders and overall service. I would love to see about 25% more service staff on the floor, and about 50% additional patron contact within a meal.
Prices are moderately high, but no more than you'd expect to pay for a fine dining meal in, say New Brunswick or Cranberry. This place has become our "Indian date night' standard. We literally have never been disappointed with the food, and have been able to overlook the occasional lapses in service.
It's a rare treat to find a restaurant that can execute so well on so many different dimensions. In a town known for excellent Indian eateries like Moghul and Sukhadia, the bar is set high for outstanding Indian cuisine. Deccan Spice...
