SHADY BILLING and each item MARKED UP sneakily
Save your money and sanity; there are plenty of honest restaurants out there
We have visited this place a couple of times and each visit was consistently a masterclass in how to rip off customers
Menu items are listed at one price, but when the handwritten bill arrives (yes, they do everything on paper like it’s the Stone Age, even though there’s a cash register gathering dust), every single item is subtly MARKED up more than what is listed on the menu. Most customers do not notice this coz it is just $1 or $2 on EACH item, but these add up on the final bill if you are ordering for a group. If you do ask for a bill, it is written in illegible handwriting so even a doctor would not be able to read it, LOL!
Even WITH the overcharge, they do "mistakes" in math/adding up. If you were to add up each item and the tax, it would be NOT equal what is listed at the bottom - very strange , in this day of computers and AI!
Then there’s the tax farce: They slap on a whopping 10% "tax" that’s way above New Jersey’s actual 6.625% rate for restaurant meals. If you dare ask for a breakdown, you might get mocked—yes, the staff actually laughs at customers requesting basic proof of charges.
They insist on CASH payments from customer even for large amounts. Paying with a credit card? Brace for an extra 3% surcharge that’s only mentioned verbally if you pry, never posted on menus or signs as required by law. Again, no receipt showing this fee, so you’re left wondering if it’s even legit or just another way to squeeze you dry.
The whole operation feels highly unscrupulous : manual billing, no computers, final totals rung up vaguely on the register. It’s shady, unprofessional, and honestly, makes you question what else they’re hiding and if they are even reporting the cash...
Read moreHold your horses people. This is a Desi Dhaba in Jersey. Owned and run by Punjabis ( read the name?). Guess what - you get Delish Punjabi food !! Lower your expectations on everything else and don’t fret. This place is NOT for everyone and for all occasions. It’s a budget joint offering FRESH food ( have you peeked into the size of kitchen?). So compromise on the plastic “silverware”, paper “China” and erratic customer service. The owners are prepping, cooking, taking orders, serving and cleaning. And trying to do PR! My fav- Probably the best naans / tandoori breads ( ask for less butter/ no butter) in Jersey - NY area on over 2 decades. All the kulchas and breads were light, crisp on outside and soft on the inside. Not heavy piles of dough. Curries are decent, rustic and tasty. Nothing mind blowing.
Place offers complete VALUE for money. Do not expect to be yes’d to death nor is this a center of fine cuisine. Do your desi shopping , grab a bite or order take out!
Only downside- they don’t offer water. It’s sold by the bottle. ( seen this at many small inexpensive joints lately on ‘24-‘25 ). Suggestion - take your own bottle if you care to save a buck.
If you don’t care if the quality of napkins and can eat tikka - naan off a paper plate, you will...
Read moreIt’s been there for a long time .. I remember eating here 6-7 years ago. I was passing by oak tree and wanted to re-visit them .. it was about 6 pm and I was craving for a quick tea and snack .. nicely located right in the heart of oak tree rd. Parking outside is good… it wasn’t crowded and hence the billing and service was quick . There were some tables inside to sit and eat …
Was craving for mirchi bajji and it was pre made and kept close to the billing , so people can look at it and order . The only issue was, it wasn’t. Fresh . Once I ordered , they took a couple of bajjis and fried it and brought it back . Very average bajji. It was soggy and not crispy at all. It tasted a bit sour and tangy. Just had a couple of pieces and threw it out , after coming to home . Would have returned it if I had a taste in the shop itself . Disappointed ! Also orders to-go malai kulfi and of course - they gave me mango kulfi . I couldn’t return it and get my malai kulfi . But the taste of kulfi was superbbb. One of the best kulfis I have had in Oak tree area. Also ordered tea. It was average. Pricing was ok ..
Overall a very average visit . Will probably go back some day to taste...
