So disappointed. My mom came here a few weeks back and could not stop raving about the place. So much so that she went there two days in a row. We went on 9/15/2024 and I don't think we will ever go back.
I want to start off by saying we called the day before to make sure it was kid friendly. We have 3 small kids and one of them is special needs. We were REPEATEDLY told that we would be able to sit in the dinning area away from the bar and outdoor seating. We were also told that all the food is made to order so if we had a dietary restriction, it wouldn't be a problem. Again, this was 24 hours before we got there.
And here we are today. They refused to seat us in the dining room. And it was over 80° outside. So that only left the bar. I have a 1 year old child. After watching her almost fall multiple times, we went outside. (This made me super sick and I ended up puking a couple hours later from the heat exposure.) The tvs were so loud that I had to shout to hear my husband that was sitting directly across from me at the table.
When we ordered our food, the guy seemed upset because we asked for a plain burger and fries. He had to physically go back and talk to the cook and again, he didn't seem happy about this.
We got our food and it was OK. I wouldnt say it was great but it's better than gas station food. Our server never once stopped at our table the whole meal. I never even got a drink. (My kids and husband did have a drink at the bar. I brought the kid's drinks to the table but my husband finished his at the bar and it never got refilled. The kids also never got anymore and had empty glasses by the end asking for more). My husband went in to pay the bill as the waiter never brought it. We left as soon as it was paid.
Overall, I don't plan on going back. Service was terrible and the food didn't leave a lasting impression. Any place that can treat a family with small children like that is definitely not a place I want to support. Especially considering I called the day before to let them know we were coming the next day and making sure all the bases...
Read moreThank you, Aisha! We were seated right away; an outside table under a patio umbrella was available. Aisha took good care of us the whole time. The portion sizes (meats) were ample, but the food was... okay. I wasn't expecting how mild the cherry wood smoke would be, so maybe that threw me off a bit. The Corn Nuggets were really good. The Mac & Cheese and the Green Beans were tasty. The beans had pieces of bacon, but they weren't 'fatty'. Everyone has their favorite BBQ, so my opinions are just that. The chicken [white quarter] was a little bit dry, which - I guess - is better than over-smoked and rubbery. It needed the sauce. [It's a decent vinegar-based style.] The brisket wasn't bad, but it wasn't really great, either. It had about 1/8" smoke ring on one side, but there wasn't the bark I look forward to with brisket. It was solid throughout; not all of the fat and collagen melted, so it probably could have used a while longer in the smoker. The flavor wasn't much, so it benefited from the House sauce also. By far, the best meat we had was the Pulled Pork. It didn't have a lot of smoke flavor, but the fat and collagen were melted and the meat was tender and moist. [My apologies to those who hate that word.] The pork really didn't need the sauce, unless you really want that additional flavor. Will we go back? Maybe. We've driven past them for years, and now I've scratched that itch. But I won't turn away a Late-night Pulled Pork Sandwich if I feel like it. Would I dissuade someone from trying Casey's? Absolutely not. They do what they do, and they do it well. By all means, give them a try and see if they...
Read moreMy wife and I went here on a Thursday night in mid-November. Visiting from Madison. We were looking forward to a simple bbq dinner. I dabble in smoking brisket and pork shoulders at home and wanted to try Casey’s to see what I could improve/change on my own homemade bbq. Note the brisket I smoke is Texas brisket - salt, pepper, nothing else. It comes out juicy, smoky, and with a proper bark and smoke ring. This is the style of brisket I’ve had virtually everywhere else as well.
Unfortunately what I was given at Casey’s was not like any bbq brisket I’ve had before. My plate had a few slices of brisket and the rest was falling apart and crumbling. It was “well done”, not juicy at all, no smoke ring, and no real bark and smoky flavor. It had a faint aura of smoke, like the chef smoked a cigar earlier in the day and that little remnant rubbed off on the meat, but no bbq smoke like I would have expected. Tender, but the fat seam between the flat and point wasn’t rendered much. I would assume it was cooked too hot and too fast, with no seasoning on it. I really had to load up the bbq sauce (good flavor though) to eat the dry flavorless meat.
Perhaps this is what Casey’s and Door Cty likes as brisket, bland hot crumbly beef. However I’m fairly confident I could bring my little smoker up here and sell Texas style brisket all day long…
Everything else was fine, nothing to...
