To be kind, it was "not good". We went when it was VERY slow but it took 20 min for anyone to come to the table. I started with a Ceasar Salad intending to order an entree after the rest of the group arrived. Now a Ceasar salad isn't complicated but it does have some essential proper ingredients. At the very least it is romaine lettuce with a good ceasar dressing and grated parmessean or Romano cheese, all of which were specifically mentioned in the description on the menu. A good Ceasar salad also has anchovies as an option but I can give them a pass for not having that option, but it missed the mark on all of those things. What I got was essentially over chopped Big Mac iceberg lettuce (the size of a side salad) with croutons and very fake ceasars dressing that tasted like latex paint smells, for some reason it had micro chopped tomato (I didn't even know you could chop tomato that small but then it didn't belong there in the first place) and no cheese. I mentioned to the waiter that grated cheese is kind of a essential part of a Caesar salad even if everything else was a sad imitation (the menu said it came with three cheeses, asiago, romano and parmesean so I don't think expecting at least one of those was out out of line). He asked what kind id like, informing me there would be an additional charge (what? Fine, whatever). I told him parmesean or Romano would be great. He told me the only cheese they have is cheddar. I passed on that LOL. Anyone reading this probably has more options than that in their own fridge. Also, why even ask what kind I'd like unless he was just hoping he'd get lucky, but no one is going to ask for cheddar on a Ceasar salad. The salad also came with chicken which I didn't need but at least it couldn't make it worse right? Well, they found a way. The "grilled" chicken was dry and charred to the point of being incredibly bitter. Meanwhile the rest of the party had arrived and were ordering soup and entrees. I passed on the entree because if you can mess up a salad that badly and charge what you do, there was no way I was going to trust them to make an edible entree. I mean if they wanted to be honest they should have just offered "side salad of chopped iceburg salad mix and bitter dry chicken, your choice of dressing". If you are thinking I should have asked if it was a true Ceasar salad, let me just say that for the amount they charged it seemed like it went without saying, and yet the menu said it was everything I mentioned it should have been, even though what they brought was different in every way possible save for the fact that they did put croutons (the kind you get from what looks like a ceral box) on it. After everyone had finished various dissapointing entrees, with the waiter never once checking back after bringing the food, the waiter cleared the plates, dropped one which splattered two guests with left over fish, and his only comment was "Wow I'm sure glad that plate didn't break." He then asked us if we'd like dessert. Being uniformly underwhelmed we all said no. He read us the dessert menu anyhow and when we all told him no again, he ended his interaction for the night by saying "Wow, this table is a tough sell". Well he got that right at least because we won't be back. I wanted to have an enjoyable dinner and really wanted to leave a good review, I've never taken the time to leave a bad review for any restaurant in my life, but this time I felt it warranted the effort. I left hungry and feeling like chump that they got...
Read moreWe are locals who live in Fish Creek and one thing I've noticed consistently about Door County restaurants is that so much goes in to making them look great, and yet the service is always disappointing. I will say this: they REALLY hustled to get this place ready in time to reopen for the tourist season, and the building looks great. It's much more open, big windows, lots and lots of seating outside, first floor and second floor. It's way better than the old building as far as that's concerned. So we decided to pop in with the kids and check it out for a quick lunch. There were open tables everywhere, yet we waited 20 minutes in line just to get seated. Then we got a table upstairs and waited 20 minutes for a drink order, which by then we knew what we wanted. Well, food took almost an HOUR! For pretzel sticks and a wrap with french fries! By then, our toddlers were totally losing their minds and everyone was restless. I get it, you're working out the kinks. It's a soft open. Lots to figure out. But what gets me is that the server doesn't come by to see how we are doing, keep us updated, refill our drinks. When the food comes, I tell her to just box it up because we need to go already. No apologies, no comping anything. Just "Here's your food" And it was THIRTY ONE DOLLARS for pretzel sticks, a turkey wrap, a beer, and a chocolate milk. THIRTY ONE DOLLARS. Seriously. Restaurant owners... I get it, some things are out of your control. Good help in DC is hard to find. Things happen. But honestly, have your servers check on customers! Offer refills and an update! If they are mad, apologize and offer to AT LEAST comp the appetizer. Something minor like that makes a huge difference, and now the new Shipwrecked gets added to the list of DC restaurants we aren't going to anymore. Why are so many restaurants in DC so nice looking (Log Den, Alexanders, DC Coffee Cafe, Shipwrecked), but have such lousy service? I get that we live in a tourist area, its busy and expensive. But I'm paying for the SERVICE, the experience! I could have stayed home and had a pretzel and a turkey wrap. I'm...
Read moreMy family have been visiting Door County at least annually for much of the last 20 years. I have stopped at Shipwrecked every couple years and am consistently underwhelmed by the experience. This visit was no different.
It was a warmish day outside, while I was hoping for patio seating, my teenager wasn't interested in sitting in the sun, so we opted for the upper level. There was zero airflow up there - stagnant warm air despite the massive visible HVAC ductwork - not sure why they didn't have air moving, but it was uncomfortable.
My wife and I ordered beers, they were okay. The descriptions seem to cater to a "mass produced beer crowd" which surprises me for a place that bills itself as a "brew pub." it would be nice to have something that goes beyond the idea of "you'll like this if you normally drink Miller Lite."
The food was okay - presentation was lacking - everything served on plain white plates with no creativity in how it is placed there with lots of empty plate around the food. I ordered the brat patty, which was flavorful, but overwhelmed by the bun. The four-bite bowl of coleslaw wasn't anything exciting - but french fries would have been an upcharge, so I wasn't going to spend any extra for those. The fried cheese curd appetizer were fine, a little heavier batter than I like, but that's more preference. The pretzel sticks with cheese sauce were good, but overpriced for the portion you get.
The server seemed completely uninterested in doing more than the minimum effort - maybe they are understaffed, but once we ordered we didn't see the server again until we were finished with our meal. No checking in with us, no chance to order a second beer (not that I would have), no presence in the dining room (again, maybe the server had tables in other areas).
the location is convenient. I want to like the place, but overall, I remain unimpressed. As we left, I noted the food on other tables - nothing that made me wish I had ordered something different. My wife and I commented "let's remember we are continually underwhelmed when we come here and not come...
