I rarely give out one star reviews. I fully support small business, but after an experience were my family was disrespected, felt compelled to post this. It's a long post, keep reading if you care.
We came on the Friday before the 4th of July, advertised as being open starting at 11 AM. My family and kids were hungry and being an impromptu visit we arrived 5 minutes early. I checked in, and was told to wait outside. No problem. After waiting, we got seated. Absolutely no sushi was on the conveyor belt at this time. Not sure if everyone woke up late or had a bad morning, but even all this was not a problem and I was patient.
With nothing available to eat, we ordered 14 dishes that our kids really enjoy. Once our waitress (who was just great) gave the "sushi chef" (Japanese one w/ shaggy hair) our order, I heard him grumble something about how he couldn't make it. Which wasn't really nice to hear from a customer service perspective, but again, we were patient and didn't make a deal of it. We waited for about 7-8 more minutes while he finished up some dishes. Which we realized he was finishing some other dishes that he wanted to put out on the conveyor belt. Again, not very nice considering there were no other customers and nothing to eat on the belt. But again, no problem. After he spent his time placing the sushi he had made around parts of the conveyor belt some came near us and while he was near, we politely asked what it was.
I've never had so much attitude huffed as he grunted some unintelligible words under his breath, giving us side eye at the same time. We were pretty surprised but asked him again since we obviously couldn't understand what he had said. And to note, we asked again politely despite his disrespectful tone. This time he paused and glared at my wife, daggers coming out of his eyes as he muttered something under his breath again. I felt his contempt, disrespect. All this attitude over a simple question about what the sushi was, since we were hungry. This time, instead of being polite, I felt anger and got up and let our waitress and the "sushi chef" know that we were leaving. Having come here before and met the owner, I asked the waitress to speak to the owner. I explained the situation to the owner, who didn't fully seem to grasp why we felt disrespected, he kind of apologized and was silent as we walked out. And to note, when I asked for the owner, of course the "sushi chef" tells me he is the owner...which wasn't really believable given his behavior.
I purposely waited a few days before writing this review. I can say that we were very patient with this staff member until he really crossed the line. While I wish the business success, we will never be back. And to the business, if you say you open at 11, make sure you are prepared and are actually ready to serve and...
Read moreCame here for lunch as a party of one and can say I will not be returning. The interior is clean and orderly and the music isn’t too loud which is nice. Would recommend you use the restroom elsewhere though as it is unpleasant and dirty looking.
Service: When I walked in, the restaurant was mostly empty and while there are only eight booths, I told to sit at the counter. I recognize that it’s proper for a single person, but the restaurant was empty. The service was very mediocre, especially if you are alone. I continuously watched the servers walk past me but stop at larger groups to ask if they needed anything. I asked for miso soup and waited ten minutes before reminding the person I asked after not receiving it. The servers are polite though. I walked in about an hour after opening and while there was a decent amount of sushi on the belt, there were mostly unpopular options. It was obvious they were saving the more popular options for a busier time. However, I had no interest in eating an asparagus and cream cheese roll or a crab stick on rice. I waited over twenty minutes to ask a server to count my plates so I could pay and leave, but by that time, they were all standing in the back and hadn’t been walking around. I ended up going to the front and asking the host so I could leave.
Food: The food quality definitely leaves something to be desired. The rice is cold, mushy, and overly sweet. The fish isn’t exactly fresh. The portion of fish to rice, especially for the nigiri is appalling. I requested a couple of rolls that weren’t on the conveyor and waited about twenty minutes for them to be made while the group next to me requested a roll and had it within five minutes. Though I wanted to order other items I didn’t want to wait twenty minutes every time so I refrained. The wasabi being on the belt makes it difficult to get in a timely manner unless you are supposed to take it off and put it back on. Which seems unsanitary. My favorite item was the salmon lemon roll, but only because it was slathered in sauce and lemons. I know conveyor belt sushi is generally lower quality but this was the lowest quality sushi I’ve had at...
Read moreDrove all the way from Las Cruces to try this place. My girlfriend and I got there right at 9 pm an hour before they closed with a lot of people still sitting around the belt. Restaurant was still pretty full of people and in no we did we think getting there at 9 pm when the restaurant closed at 10 was a big deal. We were wrong. The service was non existent and the staff seemed annoyed to even have customers. The belt with the sushi plates was practically empty and the staff didn’t even try to at least put something worth trying for the customers. Mind you there’s still people sitting all around this thing. So we tried a couple plates here and there of the $2 and $3 sushi. Nothing special whatsoever it be nice if there was at least some more of it to eat. They never put out any of the $4 or $5 options which we were excited to try nor even asked us if we wanted anything specific which I would of gladly paid for. Even the little desert plates were lousy and only put out a few which I imagine everyone took at least one because they never went around again. Even with a bunch of kids on one end you can imagine they would of sold way more had they just put more out but yeah didn’t get to try those either. We had to order these bowls from the kitchen because at this point my gf and I are still super hungry. These chicken and rice bowls were almost $8 and honestly the tiniest portion I’ve ever been served in a Asian food restaurant it was almost funny. We left hungry and paid $30 for...
