CAVA — Restaurant in Elgin

So, I’d begun to suspect Cava of giving its online customers smaller portion sizes than their in-store customers, but I didn’t have proof. Well, I got that proof today.

My mom wanted a salad bowl, so I placed an online order for her. But when she saw the meager portion size, she was upset…and rightly so. She went back inside to tell someone about the portion size, but the worker (a tall, thin, White woman who was wearing glasses and a bun) was rude to her.

The woman snatched the bowl from my mom and began making a new one. She slammed utensils around and ingredients into the bowl, and was very obviously aggravated. She then told my mom that the portions are controlled by whether or not you order online or in-store. Meaning, as I’ve said, online customers get less than in-store customers, but pay the same price. And this, apparently is a Cava policy which is bizarre to me!

For context, my mom is 67 years old, and we just buried my 28-year-old brother a few months ago. She hardly eats because she’s heavily grieving, but Cava is one of the healthier places that she actually enjoys. And I feel better ordering her a Cava bowl, because I know I can get her to at least eat that.

I say all that to say, you don’t know what people are going through. That woman had no right to treat my mom the way she did, and if I’d known she had mishandled my mom that way, she and I would’ve definitely had words.

Anyway, maybe this is common knowledge and everybody knew but me. But I thought customers deserved to know that Cava treats its online customers differently than their in-store customers. If you want your money’s worth, go inside and...

I absolutely love cava. The food’s delicious, I appreciate the variety of toppings, etc. however. I order through the app for pick up often at this location and my experiences recently has had its disappointment. I once received the wrong order because they put my receipt on the wrong bag. Granted I should have checked inside the bag, but if my name is on the outside of the bag, I expect my food to be in the bag… I then started to check my bags more often and it’s little things missing like sauces and my pitas. I ordered for pick up today, my order is 15 mins past the ready time, I don’t mind waiting. My order is on the pick up shelf and I grab it and get to my car and check. I realized that a whole order of pita chips was missing and a side of sauce. I received them when I went back inside, but I get home and they didn’t even put romaine lettuce in my bowl. It’s the little things that build up that get too irritating to order from this location. My order shouldn’t be on the shelf if everything isn’t in the bag.
