Caribe Portuguese Bakery — Restaurant in Elizabeth

We went here to order my niece's birthday cake because we had previously gone here to get last minute birthday cakes for officemates. The cakes on display that we just chose on the spot were always good.

This time, we ordered 2 cakes (1 big, 1 small), both fondant 2 weeks in advance for her birthday party this past Sunday. On the same day we ordered both cakes, we called right back to cancel the small cake because we realized it was no longer needed. On the large cake it was agreed that there was to be a fondant decoration that was going to be created and placed on top. Four days before the party we went to talk about adjusting the size of the cake. We were told they cancelled the WHOLE ORDER. We were quite confused. Did they cancel our whole order because they were mad that we cancelled the small cake? I don't know.

So we added back on the small cake and asked them turn it into a two layer cake. They said ok, but they charged us more than the original price. And to top it off, they said they can no longer do the fondant decoration on top. They would have to just draw it on flat on the top layer. So, we basically paid more for less. But what could we do? We were stuck.

On the day of the party, we were called and were asked to come later to pick up the cake because they were still working on it. They weren't even finished with it yet! When we got it, the fondant design on top looked like it had just be put on that morning, it had not even dried. AND THE CAKE WAS LOPSIDED! It was UNEVEN and TILTING to the right side! Absolutely horrible and unprofessional.

We will never be going here for any cake in the future again and I highly recommend that no one ever order a fondant cake from them because they obviously do not know how to do one correctly. I would only go here if you needed a quick cake, like a Carvel. If you want something a little more involved, go somewhere more...

Will never ever go here again and would never recommend to anyone!! First of all, I was discriminated against for speaking English... they took like 5 other people who came in AFTER me as they ignored me and then huffed and puffed and rolled their eyes at me. Then finally someone asked me rudely "what do you want". I asked for a simple assortment of cookies. The cookies were so bad that my 5 year old daughter who LOVES cookies and anything sweet spit them out and then had to ask for something to wash them down. No joke they tasted like they had been sitting open in a fridge for a week. If you get cookies wrong as a bakery then I'll pass on trying anything else. Between being treated like scum for not knowing their language, being set aside for several other people behind me, and the horrible tasting extremely over priced cookies this place fully deserves it's 1 star.

P.s. should've known when I saw they sold cigarettes there also it wasn't going to be...

Service is horrible and the staff is not helpful. They showed us a sample and when we went to pick them up gave us something totally different, then they blamed us for not explaining. Explain what!!!! they showed us the sample. We will never come back here and will let everyone know that once they have your money you are a NOBODY!!!!!
