When it comes to eating in a chain breakfast place, I prefer Cracker Barrel. During Highway driving eating in Cracker Barrel is my safest bet. The food is always fresh and good. The washrooms are clean and well maintained. The cute goodie shop is excellent. This time while I was driving back from Ohio, I was passing through KY, and made a stop here for breakfast. As always, the restaurant was packed, although we didn’t have to wait. We got the table. They treated us with some freshly baked biscuits as complementary. The biscuits were terrific- with butter/ jam. I got myself the mama’s pancake breakfast and my mom ordered some egg sandwich. The food was fresh, hot and tasty. The pancakes were great. I was thinking to order a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, however the server said that the juice was not freshly prepared. I was surprised. I remember drinking fresh juice in Cracker Barrel previously!! Did they change the policy? The server lady was nice at face, although never put any attention to us. She never asked back if we need anything. She served us water with ice, while we asked for water with NO ice. Still we didn’t say a word. She never checked back to our table while eating. I called her for a togo box, and she just came back to give that. I will never describe this as a good service. However I gave a generous tip, which probably she didn’t deserve.

I had a great experience at this Cracker Barrel in Elizabethtown, KY. When I arrived there was a group of servers at the front awaiting guests. My server asked me if I had a drink preference she could get started before a different server walked me to my seat. I was promptly given a menu, my drink (coffee and water), and asked if I already knew what I wanted or needed some time. This did not feel like a rush to me, rather an intuitive approach to serving me better. I took a few minutes and she was right back with me to take my order. I ordered chicken and dumplings with two sides (possibly the cheapest order). I got green beans, collared greens and corn muffins. The food didn’t take long to arrive. Soon afterwards the server asked if I needed anything and I asked for hot sauce and vinegar (for the collared greens). All tasted good. The green beans were a little over steamed or cooked as they were very soft. Chicken and dumplings will never be like Mama made at home, but these are a Cracker Barrel staple and are pretty good. The server was consistently checking on me and refilling my drinks. I was very satisfied with the service overall. And as I said, the chicken and dumplings were the cheapest meal I could find on the menu - $8.99 for the dish with two sides.

Cracker Barrel restaurants all over have been going down hill ever since they introduced alcohol to the menu, offending their largest groups of customers: Christians and older folks looking for the last family restaurant that isn't a sell out to the drunken crowd. Also food portions have gotten smaller and the quality of the food has also become disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised if they disappeared entirely in the next few years. We used to frequent these places monthly, but now maybe once or twice a year and always disappointed. This time our waitress was extremely friendly and pleasant. But when we ordered, she apologetically told us they were out of what we wanted to order (at 5pm) and she didn't like serving the dinner crowd because this happens regularly. That's really sad! And it has been the same during our last 3 visits at different locations even in different states. My biscuits arrived and we did a double take wondering if they really were biscuits due to their appearance. And the campfire chicken was WAY overcooked. I truly hope this review finds it's way to corporate so someone can quickly turn around this sinking ship that was once an American establishment that was always packed with a waiting list, because they are now becoming a ghost town.

My husband and I went in to place a to go order . The host was in a brown smock, yellow shirt and long black.earings . I'm white and my husband is black. My the host refused to get a server for us. We asked about getting a to go order. The host told us we had to go over there., did not tell us where .( Cracker barrel policy , is a host, cashier or anyone gets asked if I can place a to go order ask for , they call up a server . ) Then looked past us, yelled over our heads . 'Any one need help to be just seated" So we went to cashier She was confused why the host did nit call a server up. I asked to speak to a manager . The manager came. when I told him what his host did he said oh i dont think he meant it like that, he looked at the host and smiled.( condoning the employees actions.. I said, then why after he told us no.and to go over there ( somewhere,) . The host, past us and Yelled anyone need to be just seated . He acted as this was normal treatment of people. He looked at the host and did nothing, did not call him over ask what was going on. Then asked if i wanted to still order. So we been discriminated against , made to.wait because of the color of skin, now the manager dont take our order( orders can be placed in the front computers too) he now is going to call a server .Then I told him the earring the host brass wearing was unacceptable for cracker barrel.( atrocious) the manger scolded me, but said nothing to the host while we were there. But scolded me for pointing out his host was not what cracker barrel dress close policy and rude , racially ignorant . The host had a wrinkled, dingy yellow shirt, long black dangle earrings, Hair was dishelved( thinning( bit dishelved) wrinkled dirty apron . When I commented on his appearance I was scolded. So we left , I will not spend money or break bread at a place thar Promotes and allows Racial discriminatiom. I spoke to.the Gm and he was nice, but asked me I'd we could keep this on a store level.why? Probably because this happens quite often . Then he asked if I knew name of manager and host. I Said no I left but I'm sure you still have last night schedule He goung to Say to me there were 3 managers on duty all men. I'm sure with a situation like this it won't be hard to figure out who it was. I told him look at cameras . The gm did ask me if anything they can do? What compensation can you do for allowing your employees and managers to be racist. I will not spend another dime at Cracker barrel. They were sued in 2004 for allowing racism against customers of color. I will be taking this to cooperate and to.the owner s of cracker barrel . If I get no results I will contact the department of Justice.. This is unacceptable behavior that is encouraged by a store manager . Hopefully the Gm looks and his employess and Managers a little closer. The store was clean , cashiers were friendly and Gm polite As the rest of the place I recommend bot going if you believe all people are the same in God's eyes like I do. Cracker Barrel still allows Racism I'm their stores. I worked at Cracker Barrel for many years. I know the policies. They are suppose to family based They lost site of the word family and now they are apparently racially motivated woth who they choose to serve . DO BETTER CRACKER BARREL YOU LOST A LIFE LONG FAN AND PAST EMPLOYEE. I loved my stores in illinois . SHAME ON YOU FOR...

The worst case scenario ever, the waitress was horrible. It all seems to have started over a misunderstanding of when my son was going to arrive. She took that to mean don't serve them till then. After waiting a half hour to get any service whatsoever šŸ˜•. I believe she way misunderstood. Then we finally got to order some food. About an hour later. I started to ask for another server because she was talking with other people in the kitchen and not serving us. I could see it happening from the table. So my son finally arrived at the table. She seems willing to help him but not us. It was the first time I got a chance to visit my son in 20 years so it was supposed to be a special occasion. But she ruined it by behaving very badly. I had gotten a manager involved with trying to tell him about the problem with the waitress and decided to give her another chance if she would correct her behavior. But that was a mistake. I should have asked again for a new server. But by that time it seems to have severely impacted my visit with my son. Which caused me to not want to tip her. Her attitude stank. Later she got violent. And chasing us down in the parking lot. Acting like she was going to attack us, until she saw me. She screamed at us saying that we only left her five dollars. I'm like what the hell... My son had decided to take care of the tip, and it's not required anyway. I leave tips for good people who do good service. Not bad people who ruined things. Anyhow she's screaming at me about how she only got five dollars. I was like really she should be immediately terminated for such bad service and very bad behavior. It was a horrible day because of this. Why because it's permanently caused problems with my son. Unexpectedly 😬. Who knew that a person could cause this much problems with just trying to eat a meal... She called my son after she was told to not do that. Begging my son for more money. OMG that's a level of crazy 😧 that I've never seen before. Screaming at me that five dollars wasn't enough... OMG that's insane 😵.. the manager still has no idea what lengths this crazy woman has gone to just for money. It's like they were still not understanding the level of crazy that this woman was going to. I'm not required to tip. Tipping originally was for rich people. And anyhow I only tip for good people who do good service. This was not the case this time. Her behavior was very very bad. The management still has no idea how bad it was... I want her...

I really don't know where to start. It was Mothers day so getting a seat within 15 minutes was good. We had been traveling and the teenagers were hungry, so we stopped at the one place we knew was ALWAYS good... Unfortunately, this time you let us down. First i got coffee... one cup never refilled, even after I ask. We got a Mommas and a Grandmas and one got 2 pancakes with bacon. When I saw my plate I was looking for cameras. Seriously , my 17 year old daughter couldn't stop laughing. The pancakes were 31/2 in diameter. And that is being generous on some. They were so hard you couldn't cut them. It was laughable. I though I'm not complaining about this because it won't matter. Who ever prepared and plated this food did so with full intent and knowledge of what they were serving. My eggs were served runny, and not over hard as requested. The hashbrowns were warmed but potatoes were hard,as in raw, and the apples were cold. So what happen. I quietly got up and went to pay for my food 40.00 for all 3. And when the smiling lady at the register ask me how my meal was, I simply told her that this was by far not the best i ever had at CB. And I left... could i have complained and have been comped part or all my meals yes because they could clearly see the meals were not eaten. But then i remembered that this was mothers day... the food was made in bulk, not to order, but for quantity and speed... why but to get people in and out as fast as possible. Its a shame really, because I have always had great food and service while eating at CB. Unfortunately this one time that it went south so badly has me thinking I won't be back for a while. I truly understand speed and rushing and making things work with a quick pace during busy times. Incidents do happen... But someone, or several someones plating and serving a meal intentionally that was so substandard thats appalling is unexcusable and the cook, the person plating, the server who brought it to our table, and the cashier who could clearly see we were appalled, as well as the manager on duty who supervised these people should all be reprimanded... clearly times are tough but substandard food should never...
