A good and authentic Japanese restaurant, some other Japanese restaurants have servers, sushi chef, and cooks that are non Japanese! Don't understand the rationale behind this practice, maybe not enough Japanese wants to work in a restaurant especially sushi chef. No one goes to an American restaurant and have Mexicans to cook their steaks or chickens! it is the Same general principle! This has a Japanese chef! He seems experienced Items on menu is limited, full menu is not available. There was a laminated menu on table side that guests ordered from. And from same original menu. None of those classic Japanese cooking dishes are on it, only lunch hours menu. Dinner will served complement of full menu. Some seemingly a different menu for different hours of dining. Servers were nice and they pay attentions to all customers. There were 4 wait staff, 2 per sections of the dinning areas. During very busy lunch hours, staff worked efficiently, we were sit quickly, and quick order of tea, drinks, or water. Apparently they believe in conservations. The ordered dishes came out for us after a reasonable wait. The bill came almost immediately after all ordered dishes were served. Place is simply decorated and comfortable. Parking is ample with access for wheelchair parking, but entrance accomodations for handicappes to this restaurant is lacking. Price is reasonable yet on the medium high end. Wish the portions were proportionate to pricing, slightly more than average! We ate here many times as the taste of food is excellent, attentions to guests were improved, and wait time is shorter than before because their wait staff were distributed evenly now, as said 2 per dinning areas. It is good business as guests come in and out quickly. Everyone finished and leave, in and out quickly. Wish their menu changed and offer more varieties...

I stopped at Kurumaya for dinner while visiting the area. The atmosphere here is okay enough (sort of a small, subdued, family-style diner mixed with an old-school pizza hut vibe), but not really what I expected based on some other reviews (I'd check it out by yourself first before you decide to bring a date here). Anyhow, I started off with the eel omelette. It was alright, but it didn't have that Japanese-style egg texture I was expecting. Next, I had the teriyaki salmon entree. I was expecting salmon, rice, salad, and miso soup (based on what the menu said). But, my entree also came with some mayonnaise-drenched noodles and a mayonnaise-potato medallion thing. I found these two additional sides to be inedible, but I'm admittedly not much of a mayo guy. Someone who loves mayo would probably feel differently. The salad was okay. The miso soup, not so much. There was so little flavor that it was like having a bowl of plain warm water. The rice was fine. So was the salmon. It was different than other teriyaki salmon I've eaten elsewhere, but definitely decent. And the food portions were certainly good for the money. The service was decent as well. A little bit of a language barrier, but whatever (not a big deal). If you're looking for an inexpensive Japanese meal in Elk Grove Village, Kurumaya could be a good...

First of all, I would never come back. I had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. I understand it was lunch time but staff did not even acknowledge nor care when my group of 5 people standing in the front of the entrance door. The person who ordered take out was waiting for his order more than 30 minutes as he was still standing when we finally sat down after long waiting time. Horrible customer service and no one cared we were waiting or not. The server started taking orders from people came after us and they got their order first as well. I ordered 6 different items and only 2 items came first and second order came 10 minutes after. As 2 people almost finishing their meal, I was still waiting for 3 items so had to go upto the front as no one showed up. When I asked the staff for my rest of my order, it seemed like it was not even ready after 30 minutes so I had to cancel my order as I was running out of time. I was there more than a hour and only 3 items came out until I told them to cancel other items not even ready yet. There was no apologies or anything. I usually like this place a lot with great food but they really have to pay more attention about customer service and training, especially when they are busy. My lunch time was ruined and am not recommending this place to...
