Elijay on Saturday morning is a little sleepy, with only one or two of its many retail options opening before 10am . But not A Little Baked Bakery. They are up and at âem! The shop is bright and welcoming, as was the owner who greeted me warmly. There are a few curated gift shop items to browse but itâs the bakery case that is the star! Just enough choice to make you curious but not so many offerings as to overwhelm. I believe this is the sign of a really good bakery, make fewer things really well and you donât have to draw folks in with excess. I chose and will review two offerings.
The pecan bar is sublime. The shortbread layer is tender but still firm, just a touch of sweetness. The perfect base for the pecan topping. The pecan layer is sweet but not overly so, just rich enough but allowing the flavor of the pecans to come through. And it all finishes with a subtle but notable maple flavor. I cut one piece into nice bite or two sized quarters and ate on it for a couple of days so as to savor the goodness. With a glass of cold milk or a cup of hot coffee or tea, it was the perfect little treat.
But yâall. I cannot say enough complimentary things about the Kentucky Butter Cake. It was soft with a perfect crumb and buttery but not overly rich or sweet. Perfect for a late night snack, a quick breakfast or a proper dessert. Just get it. Itâs perfect. You can thank me later.
The bakery is adjacent to a soon-to-debut tea room. Although it may smell reminiscent of your Memawâs basement at first, it will soon charm you with all the nostalgia of her formal dining room. It. Is. Precious. I cannot wait to bring all the ladies in my life back for a good old fashioned tea party.
The only drawback was encountering those 4 delightful ladies on their annual girls trip, from Alabama, uttering the harshest words in all the English language. It starts with ârollâ and ends with âtideâ. ; ) Go Dawgs!
Go visit A Little Baked Bakery and be charmed by the warmth and âjust enough sweetnessâ that imbues this...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Ellijay, and I stumbled across this slightly hidden gem. If you head north out of the Downtown Square down N. Main St., you'll find the classy looking white and blue building.
Once inside, you enter a world of delicious tidbits, morsels, and tasty bites. Being that this was my first visit, I had to try the very popular pecan bar. I also decided to try one of the cute churro cupcakes.
The owners, Jennifer and Charity, we're friendly and welcoming. They greeted me as soon as I entered their shop, and they graciously answered all of my questions.
As I was getting ready to depart, I noticed that they also have a large tea room for private parties. It looks like the perfect atmosphere for a British high tea with Victorian looking dĂŠcor.
Needless to say, if I find myself in Ellijay again, I will definitely return to A Little Baked bakery. I highly recommend you try it as...
Read moreDefinitely a very nice small-town bakery. The shop is bright and colorful, and the staff was super friendly. There are gluten-free options, and everything we tried was tasty. The peanut butter marshmallow cake was sweet but delicious, and the cinnamon rollâalthough slightly burnt on the bottomâwas still amazing, especially warmed up. The highlight was the cinnamon coffee cake. Highly recommend grabbing it warm. A cozy, welcoming spot worth...
