Vacationing with the family and stopped in Downtown Ellijay for dinner after hiking Amicalola Falls. Ice cream after dinner was an obvious choice. First ice cream parlor we found was closed, so we walked a block further to “another place we saw”. Abby’s greeted us with the bright marquee sign and adorable baby blue VW bug outside the door. We walked in to a clean, organized, easy to understand layout. The young lady at the register greeted us warmly and explained their difference: they charge by cup size, not weight. (I know right?! I wish, too 🙄) Thank you Jesus! As a parent, we all know how we eyeball our kids and their friends in those other places. The ones who pile on $27 worth of candy then take 2 bites and “they’re full” and throw the rest in the trash. So yes. I like your business model. We were also blessed with sample cups to try a few things before our “final choice”. This avoids paying for an entire cup of “it sounded good, but I don’t really like it”. The husband even sampled all the dessert coffees and purchased a $1 cup of Peanut M&Ms. Heaven! I digress... As we’re sitting outside enjoying our bounty, the owner walks out and greets us so genuinely. He thanks us for supporting their business and wishes us a great week and to come again! I love that! I love seeing the person behind the business. No wonder I was instantly impressed the moment I walked in! Frozen yogurt and sorbets were solid. Outstanding flavors for kids with some calmer staples for adults. Would have liked some fresh fruit options, but understandable that fresh produce would result in an extra charge. Overall OUTSTANDING experience. Support small business!! This is the backbone of this great country!! Thank you...
Read moreWas visiting Blue Ridge, Georgia area on vacation, or from out of town (North Florida), my first time coming to area, however friend I was with, she had been to Blue Ridge once before. After doing some sightseeing I believe Sunday evening (12-08-2024), we wanted to look for something for dessert. Had seen Abbys Ice Cream, and we both agreed to trying... I am thankful we did! Though the establishment was small, it was easy to navigate and felt open. Many of choices of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and different toppings for dessert if desired. The prices were very reasonable, as I believe they either went by cup size (Small, Medium, or Large), or if weighed how much each dessert was? Anyhow, the young lady working at the time was very helpful and greeted us as well as thanked us. I believe I had picked orange sorbet and cookies and cream (2 flavors), and cheese cake crumbles with oreo cookie crumbles. The orange sorbet was pretty decent (light and refreshing), but the cookies and cream was extremely delicious, or my opinion at least... My friend and I both enjoyed ourselves and desserts. Thank you for great service and excellent dessert...
Read moreWe had an unfortunate and disappointing experience at Abby’s Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt due to the way we were treated by an employee named Jazmin. Upon entering the store, we were refused service because we had our service dog with us — safely carried in a backpack. Jazmin told us that no pets were allowed, even after we politely explained that our dog was a service animal.
She insisted on seeing proof, which we provided, but by that point, the damage was done. The situation was handled poorly and left us feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. It completely ruined the moment and any desire we had to enjoy something from the shop.
We strongly believe that employees should be properly trained on how to approach these kinds of situations with professionalism, respect, and a clear understanding of the rights of people with service animals. What should have been a simple and enjoyable visit turned into an uncomfortable and upsetting experience.
We will not be returning to this location and hope the management takes steps to educate their staff to ensure no one else has to go through...
