Wanted something spicy and this was the only Asian food in a 2 mile radius. We were on a long drive and didn't want to go hunting for another restaurant. So Cheng's Chinese Garden it was.
The menu had the usual American Chinese fare (General Tsos, Beef and Broccoli etc.) but there was a section that looked promising - the names of the dishes hinted at the more traditional Chinese dishes.
We order egg drop soup and hot and sour soup to start. They didn't disappoint. The main course was a dry beans dish and a pork and cabbage "spicy" dish.
The dry beans dish was just outstanding! Such a simple dish. Prepared with some pickles (not the ones you are thinking of) that added a bit of extra taste - made the dish worth recommending. Definitely try it. The pork dish was tasty but more sweet than spicy. Not overly sweet like sweet and sour dishes but unmistakably sweet. We asked for some chillies sauce on the side but that didn't help the dish much. It was not bad by any means. Just not the spicy we were craving.
Service was fast and friendly. The soup came out non sooner than we finished ordering. The restaurant is clean and the decoration in unmistakably Chinese. If some one walked you in there with blindfolds on and you would know instantly what to expect when your blindfolds...
Read moreExcellent Chinese food spot. My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years, and it is our favorite local place for Chinese. I have tried many dishes here, and all have been great, you can't really go wrong. The quality is significantly better than the average takeout spots - this is a bit more upscale, but still comfortable and casual. Great place to dine in too. I recommend ordering from the lunch menu for the best prices (lunch menu available from 11:30 to 3:00). For around $8 or $9 one person can get a soup and a well-portioned main dish (with rice and egg roll/chicken fingers side), plus the crispy noodles and duck sauce if you dine in. The restaurant is cozy and has pretty nice atmosphere for a smaller and older place like this. If you are looking for Chinese food in Enfield or surrounding towns, this is a great choice. No real complaints. Once in a long while they may have an off day where the food isn't as good, but...
Read moreWhen my order arrived at the residence, the delivery person placed the bag all the way across the front patio/porch to an unused door, which can hardly be seen from the driveway. I went down when he called and he was in his car. The front patio is very large and rectangular in shape. The main front door is very obviously used. The light was on and the other door is not used and was dark. He commenced screaming at me from inside his car when I couldn’t find the bag of food, gesticulating wildly, and pointing at basically nothing. He got out of his car, sighing loudly, rolling his eyes at me like I was an idiot. I did not appreciate that, nor tipping this guy the 20% I usually tip. He was rude, arrogant, and entitled, like I was bothering him. He should try to use more civility and manners, and less bad attitude, or get a different job. I’ll never order...
