Driving back from dallas to houston I wanted some bbq and was debating stopping here or alma's bbq which was a little bit farther, but stopped here.
The service here was bad.
I order my food, they didn't have mash potatoes. No big deal, just got a different side. But me to you, What kind of bbq place runs out of mash potatoes?
I make my order with a guy. The sign said +$2 for a side. Checkout, the side is 2.99. I nicely let the server guy know and he basically caught an attitude and walked off to get the manager. He tells the manager and she rolls her eyes before coming over. Comes over looking at me like something is wrong with me, and first thing she says is something like 'whats the problem now?'
I greeted her and then said, the sign says $2, but the charge is for $3. And she says, well they must have have upped the prices since then. And she just was staring at me like what do you want me to do about it? -well to start as a manager she couldve just easily changed the price to the correct advertised price of $2. But doesn't do that.
The $1 doesn't make a difference obviously, no ones going to notice $1, but talking to someone nicely or even neutral is greatly appreciated.
So i say thats fine, pay. I worked many years in the service industry so I often still tip sevice industry even they are the kind just working registers and get an hourly. So out of habit i regretfully tipped $1 at the counter. I wish I didn't and could take that $1 back cuz their subtle attitude was trash.
There was a different guy bussing the tables that I saw was being really sweet to other customers though. He was busy and hadn't even interacted with me, but I gave him a $5 cuz I saw how nice his interactions were with other customers.
If you see this kid, keep that positive energy of yours.
You never know who youre talking to. Last week I gave a guy like $40-$50 on a $75 bill idr.
Food:
No mashpotatoes, The bbq was luke warm, half of it was pretty dry, and Mac and cheese was good but mid. I will say they did give you a large quantity of the bbq...
Read moreIf you find yourself in Ennis, Texas and you see all the well known logos of corporate eateries and then you see Bubba's with what looks like a maze to get to and not anything too fancy on the outside; I hope you listen to this review, go in, and be enjoy some phenomenal fresh BBQ.
First you'll be greeted by Elvin who emits joy and life-of-party vibe. And if you're smart, you'll order the best plate of ribs that will forever ruin Applebees and Chilis versions. I also hope you enjoy some of their banana pudding.
Additionally I would strongly encourage you to order a steak, that you pick the piece you want from the fridge by the entrance, order how you want it cooked and enjoy darn near cutting it with a spoon because it's so incredibly tender. Truthfully you may find yourself comparing it to Lockharts and other Dallas type barbecue joints that you have to wait a considerable amount of time and pay an arm and leg and asking why you even went to those restaurants in the first place.
I dont recommend the green beans, as they tend to be a little too overbearing with the pepper and I would also ask to sample the rice prior to ordering it, because I've had it a tad under cooked a time or two. But nothing they wouldn't fix.
I have never been a barbecue person, much less potato salad, but I could eat from this place on a weekly basis and not grow tired of it. Overall, this place is on point with the important pieces; service, vibe and meat quality and flavor. I hope you enjoy it as...
Read moreBeen living in Ennis for a little over 4 years and just got a chance to try Bubba's. I got a 2 meat plate with ribs, brisket, green beans, and potato salad. Went inside and got it to go, but noticed they do have a drive-thru, which is cool. Employees were nice. My only complaint about the restaurant is that the bar with the pickles and onions and BBQ sauce didn't have any to go containers with lids.
As for the food, the brisket was cooked wonderfully. Juicy and tender, but VERY bland. The bark was nicely smoked so there was a bit of smoke flavor, but just on the outside. The rest of the meat was very bland. Ribs were also cooked great, falling off the bone, not chewy. Just super bland. My green beans were not quite as bland as the meat, I can see they put bacon or ham hock in it, but still subpar pretty bland. The potato salad was probably the best thing, but simply on par with any pre-packaged potato salad you can pick up from HEB or Walmart. While it wasn't nasty and the meat was cooked like it should be, everything was just super, super bland. Even the sauce. I saturated the meat in it and could still barely taste it. I went on a Friday night at around 7pm and there didn't appear to be anyone under the age of 60 eating in there. So maybe they keep it bland for what seems to be their typical clientele. I was...
