As mentioned by other reviewers, this business changed ownership and added Indian cuisine to an American style menu. Being a Gordon Ramsay fan, foodie, and amateur cook, I know having 2 different menu options is a big no-no. My friend who recommended it from before the change in ownership likes Indian food, so he tied it and liked it. My review is on an item I ordered from the American cuisine menu. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, thinking that would be a safe bet since I already had a bad feeling about this place. The menu says you need to pick white, wheat, or sourdough bread for your burger. I asked the server if the burger came on a bun or if I had to choose the bread. She said I had to choose the bread so I picked sourdough. When she brought my plate out, it was served on a bun. Then I lifted the bun, and it was a mess! They added some kind of mystery sauce, the bacon was old and overcooked, and the burger looked like something a dog created. It was nowhere close to being a round patty. The meat was WAY overcooked, and that was a good thing because it seemed very old meat. In a word, DISGUSTING. The hand cut fries were soggy and glistening with excess oil. Possibly the WORST bacon cheeseburger I've ever eaten. I could easily make a bacon cheeseburger and fries better myself. This restaurant needs to decide what kind of restaurant they are. Their 2 menus are way too large to ensure the quality and freshness of the food they serve. I don't think this restaurant will last based on the lack of customers and the experience I had. I can not recommend this restaurant as there are plenty of great restaurants within...
Read moreThis is now one of my favorite places to grab a special meal, and it is a real treasure! But I need to edit my review as the owner has changed as has the character of the restaurant. But not the quality! This small cafe/bistro has less than a dozen tables, now open for lunches and dinner, throughout the week. There is one chef and one server and they are attentive and great providers! The menu is a little surprising: the fine dining dishes offered are outstanding in design and execution. With a glass of Chardonney in hand to start, we enjoyed a nicely prepared Calamari appetizer with a house made aioli, and fresh foccacia and butter. On previous visits we have had the bacon wrapped dates, which are also delightful. The Grilled Chicken Breast, served with shallots, mushrooms, and cream, the Smoked prawns, the Coconut shrimp all remain and are delicious. However, there is now another side to the menu, and I haven't been able to pass this up since the restaurant changed hands! The new chef is an excellent cook of Indian food, and the Indian dishes are outstanding. Coconut Shrimp or Chicken Currys, Butter Chicken, and Chicken, Shrimp or lamb Biryani are all fantastic! Not too spicey on average, but you can get them to kick it up to a good level if you want it hotter! Good wine selection. The Buttermilk Ice cream is no longer available, but desserts are excellent. A fantastic evening in a relaxed atmosphere, with really fine food. Griffin and Wells...
Read moreI hate to put out a negative review of a small business, but the food here wasn't very good and we were very disappointed. We started with a salad, which we were surprised to find included a generous scoop of rice and potatoes. It's our fault, of course, for not clocking "rice" in the description, but I've never (in America or in my trips to India) had rice mixed into my salad. It actually lacked the nuts and feta advertised, which they then promptly fixed upon request.
We ordered the shrimp biryani and it was too wet - when they cooked the rice, they used too much water and so the rice was overly moist instead of being al dente. It was more of a "one pot" style very basic biryani (I'd describe it more as a pulao honestly than biryani) than a traditional biryani, but the shrimp in it was cooked very well and was quite flavorful. We also ordered the saag paneer, which was decent. It wasn't green (which I suspect means they watered it down with milk or something, because the green color in saag paneer should occur totally naturally), but the flavor was decent. The naan bread it was served with was more of an almost-focaccia flatbread, which was actually quite good.
We risked dessert, which was a homemade cookie that was decent in flavor but too gritty in texture.
I wouldn't necessarily come back here myself, but they get 3 stars for great service...
