Stopped by for a late dinner, but did not know it was attached to a hotel. We looked like we were lookin' for an hourly rate room, but the prospect of having some delicious homemade tortillas won out over any shame we could've mustered about that at the time. Unfortunately, we got there about an hour before close, but the sweet waitress did her best to not make us feel rushed while we ate. Also unfortunate, were the state of our main dishes. The plate of taquitos we got as an appetizer seemed promising enough, reminiscent of the ones you can get catered from Azteca. Not as good as theirs, but not awful. My husband ordered the arroz con pollo (his go-to at any place they roll their R's), and I got the flautas.
The rice and beans were pretty yummy. I'm not usually a huge fan of Mexican rice (too dry), but this was palatable, especially mixed with the beans. Hubby's side of tortillas were piping hot, and obviously as close to your mom's homemade ones as they could get. My flautas looked pretty good, nice and crisp on the outside. But once I tried to dig into one with my fork, they fell apart into a slimy massacre all over my plate, with the tortillas too rubbery to properly cut. Flavors were okay, their guacamole especially was yummy. Hubby's pollo was super heckin' bland, but at the same time way too salty, tossed in what tasted like Top Ramen packet seasoning. The speed with which we got our food was clearly because of how late we ordered, so I'm attributing at least part of the lacklaster quality to that. They even gave us a complimentary plate of sopapillas afterwards, drizzled in Maple syrup instead of the honey that's traditionally used. Honestly, I liked it way more than I thought I would, too. Overall, I didn't hate it and would like to try it again when they're not close to closing, and envisioning the worst scenes you could pull from the...
Read moreThey fed me a seemingly day-old carne Asada that was cooked black with zero moisture. J saw a weird look in the eye of the guy who came out from the kitchen and grabbed the manager only to come out 10 minutes later with our food bagged and stapled and ready to take home. Of course, I was pissed when I saw it but we live rurally and they closed right when I I left. I also would have complained sooner but I've been in the hospital for 4 days with a life-threatening bowel obstruction that the surgeon confirmed was the Carne Asada Asada dried leather they fed me. Looks like the ordeal ordered irreversible kidney damage as well. It's obvious to me that the young man came out of the kitchen and did the right thing to tell his manager that either the grill was shut down or they were out of Carne Asada meat to cook ( the neighbors' original restaurant had also run out of meat that day as well. Instead of the manager doing the right thing and telling me,' it looks like they decided to either give me something that had been returned or cook the morning before to chop up for their Carne Asada burritos. Either way, the decision to keep my $50 knowing I was taking it home and they'd be closed by the time I got back, early killed killed me and caused GREAT suffering, a permanent kidney injury approved by before and after blood test, and the diag sis by a trained bowel surgeon. I'm waiting till Monday to contact an attorney to see what they offer for an apology, which I have no doubt will be nothing but denial. I know how their entire restaurant only had one couldn't it, and there was likely finally financial pressure to make a buck, but the amount of suffering it caused for a total of 5 days and nights, and permanent damage in retrospect may have been the best financial, let alone ethical decision to make. Good luck if you plan...
Read moreWe have eaten here multiple times over the course of a couple years. Sometimes the food is okay, other times it is terrible. Several weeks ago I ordered a margarita, on the rocks, there was a dead fly in it. My husband showed the waiter, an older gentleman, who laughed, told us "that sometimes happens" in broken English, and then walked away. My husband had to ask twice to have the drink replaced, after finding the waiter who disappeared. Eventually it was replaced, the second one was okay. The food in general is bland, and just not very good. There are a few dishes on the menu that are delicious, but the quality is inconsistent. This evening was the final time we will eat there...ever. I wanted to give it another try, my husband kept reminding me of our previous experiences. Ever the optimist, I hoped it would be good. Our waitress tried, the issue was not her fault. The food was deplorable. We had to send a chicken taco salad back. How do you mess that up? It was served on a soggy shell (I asked for it on the plate). There was only two small pieces of cold shredded chicken (maybe 2 ounces), a couple pieces of diced tomato, no cheese, wet lettuce and a small smear of guacamole. We returned the salad and ordered a chicken quesadilla which wasn't much better. A few pieces of chicken, all slid over to one side, and under cooked (the cheese wasn't melted). 😞 These are simple dishes, messing these up takes a special talent for culinary neglect. The service is inconsistent, the food unpredictable, and prices too high for the quality. We tried and have...
