We had never been to this restaurant before, and didn’t know chips and salsa weren’t served like at all other Mexican restaurants. So after we ordered our food we had two things of queso and chips brought to our table and instantly thought that this was what they served instead of Chip and salsa. So we began to eat the Queso and chips. Then another waiter came over and yelled at us and said that was not ours, that it was for a different table and he would tell our waitress to charge us. So when our waitress came over we told her the story and said we better not be charged because we thought it was what they did instead of giving chips and salsa and had her remove the food. I’ve seriously never been yelled at by a waiter before for a mistake THEY made! We have worked with the public before and my sister used to be a waitress herself and we are very kind and patient with people in the service industry. We were blown away with how they treated us. Even our waitresses attitude changed negatively after that happened. The food was pretty good! But we probably won’t be back because if the service. Plus, I like the chips and salsa that’s typically served while you wait for your meal. That’s honestly what I was craving and why we went to a Mexican...
Read moreWhen I’m traveling outside of Texas there is only so much time that can pass before I have a massive craving for Mexican food. Such was the case the other night when we arrived in Estes Park, and gathered our granddaughter to have a meal together. She is now a local and together we decided we would enjoy Mexican food this evening. La Cucina de Mama to the rescue !!! The menu is extensive. We were unable to dine in, so I decided to order online to get all the details in without someone on the other end of the phone having to write everything down! The online ordering system was easy and before we knew it, we had ordered an abundance of goodies !!!! We ordered shredded beef, tacos, ground beef, taco, shredded chicken tacos in a variety of hard and soft shells. We ordered cheese, enchilada, chicken, enchilada, beef, enchilada, rice, and beans. Oh yes, also chips and queso. I think we ended up with enough food for a small army, We sat in the little glassed in back porch of our Airbnb in Estes Park. CO. on a little table & chairs. We were able to see the Rocky Mountains all around us, along with our cherished grand daughter. The food was very good, we enjoyed everything and we definitely put it on our “Go To” list for when we return. Don’t hesitate...
Read moreLa Cocina de Mama is a small town gem. From outside it seems a bit dirty and unwelcoming, but the second you step inside the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The inside is also very pleasantly clean.
For a starter we had chips and salsa, and the chips were clearly house-made and fresh, and they were delicious.
We also ordered drinks, which were fantastic (especially the Mezcalitas!). For entrees we had an assortment of enchiladas, chimichangas, quesadillas, and tamales. To be honest it was perhaps the most authentic and flavorful Mexican food I've ever had, and it was incredible.
The prices are good for normal-size portions -- and these are not normal portions -- they're huge! One could pretty easily make two meals out of many of the entrees.
Again to summarize, the entire staff we encountered was super friendly and helpful, the drinks were great, and the food was great, flavorful, and amazing. I will definitely be back any time I'm...
