So the key to this visit is getting the right directions. I was disappointed with the route Google took me. Not many Fall colors until I reach Estes Park. More were found on the way down. Also more pullouts were available going down for photos than going up
I didn't go back to Denver on the way home but visited Erie, Colorado. I would definitely recommend going 66 to 36, it's out of the way but if you are looking for Fall colors you will not be disappointed. There are several cute places to stop in Erie for Coffee: Cristos or Fox Dog Lunch: The Post or Ice cream: Sweet's, careful not to mix it up with the other lol location that chose a similar name.

Read moreBorn and mostly raised in Colorado. Currently living in Upstate New York. I come back every year for a couple weeks to visit my family. Rented a convertible for my drive from Denver up to Seeley Lake in Montana. Spent a week up there camping and then a week in Denver area at the beginning of July. Rented a convertible and man was it worth it. It was a spontaneous day. Didn’t know where I was going to end up. I started to head towards Blackhawk and next thing I know I’m stopped at Camp St. Malo taking picture back in the car and not long later I’ve somehow made it all the way to Estes Park. It’s so easy to get lost in the views of this drive. Definitely take the time to make stops and take pictures or just marvel in the beauty of the views this Byway...
