The vibe here was bizarre, to say the least. Beautiful photographs were on the wall — and just inside the door, a couch was strewn with a tall pile of photography equipment and camera bags. There was a de-barked dog making pitiful rasping noises. It felt a little like being in someone's living room. And, as it turned out, the living room of a very rude person.
I complimented the lovely photos, and Mr. Van Horn said "My photos are good because I use a good camera." I thought this was odd because most photographers like to credit their talent (or even patience or luck) over equipment. He said Nikon cameras are the best.
He then launched into a bizarre and hostile tirade about Canon cameras and how "there are no professional photographers who use Canon." (Not remotely true.) With the amount of anger he was displaying, you'd think someone had brought up the 2016 election!
I was a potential customer, but all I got from Mr. Van Horn was vitriol. It was extremely uncomfortable! I was shocked at how unfriendly and unprofessional he was. I visit Estes Park regularly. This was my first time in his gallery. I won't be back.
Because I am not as unreasonable as Mr. Van Horn, I will give him 2 stars instead of 1. He gets the additional star for some lovely photos. But a visit to his Facebook page, shows multiple customers complaining about photos purchased and never received. I'd stay away from this place...
Read moreAbsolutely fabulous images that are a treat to the eyes. Don Van Horns gallery showcases a part of Colorado that can only bee seen in nature itself. Each image has a story that unfolds before the eyes, that of which always intrigues and wows whoever glances at it. His images are out of camera stills with out the heavy and unrealistic processing that you see in other galleries around Estes; which showcases his commitment and integrity to delivering an image of nature as it appears. He is a true photographer with a talent unmatched by most and awed by all. It also doesn't hurt that he uses Nikon +...

We had a pleasant conversation about our shared live of birds. He showed me how he can hand feed the hummingbirds near his shop. Even though he was closing up he invited my husband and I in and gave up his personal time to answer any questions we had. Great guy, wonderful...
