Listen, I get it, 2020 has been horrendous! But poor service does exactly the opposite of what most restaurants are trying to accomplish, staying open under strict guidelines. How do you stay open? Keep people coming through to dine outdoors in the brisk cold air of Eugene. How do you get people to stay away? Well a combination of things but one that stood out at Beergarden was the poor service.
When we first checked in as a party of three, we were told we were up next on the list. So we waited naturally and the line started forming behind us for the waiting list. Another hostess/waitress skipped past us and seated a couple. With the covid regulations and spacing, we understood it was likely because they had two people and we had three. No worries at all but we asked the waitress for clarification to confirm we were still on the waiting list and she immediately became defensive and condescending. Shortly after, a bartender nearby was kind and showed us to our table. I walked in and noted the couple was seated at a four person table and still, I thought, it has to be due to covid numbers. Immediately after us, a larger party came in so I was really confused because nobody had left to adjust numbers.
Nonetheless, I ordered and received prompt service from the food carts themselves that delivered.
The restaurant closed at 2000 hours and my friends food bowl (which was ordered at 1930 hours) had not yet come. She approached the food truck and they immediately rectified it and were so kind!
The clock struck 2010 hours and my friend had just finished her food. We were then berated by the same waitress from earlier from not having left yet. This caused me issue because it was no fault of our own. Some more understanding would have been much more effective or a kind, “hey we have closed, is there any way I can get you guys to exit so I can clean?” Instead it was a very distasteful interaction and abrupt remark about needing to lead blow leaves and we needed to leave immediately. I was so taken back, the worst service I’ve had from here was tonight. I normally have...
Read moreBeer, wine, and 6 different food carts. Live music too. How could this not be a great time? I take my Grandma here every other Saturday night. She loves the live music and people watching. It's kind of a weird story, but last week I pushed her through the crowd in her wheel chair. Her purse got caught around a blind persons service dog and the contents spilled everywhere. I bent over to pick up her things and shovelled them back in her purse and was surprised to be holding a condom in my hand. I joked with my Grandma as I showed her the trojan sheer condom and said, "Hey Grandma, have you been hanging out at the singles bar lately." I didn't think it was hers. She looked up at me and said, "the wood stove looks old and rusty on the outside, but it's warm and pleasing inside.". Totally grossed me out. I said, "Grandma! Yuk! You`re kidding, right?" She looked straight at me and said, "Listen here bucko. Im 84 and what I do is my business and if I want to go out and get laid thats my business." I didn't argue with her, but I think it's nasty because I can't be with her for more than 3 hours without her pooping her pants. Anyways, the food and wine and atmosphere is great. Just don't get too drunk or you might wake up next to...
Read moreThis place has two standout qualities: variety and atmosphere. The large brewpub drink selection and the eclectic food truck menus provide a massive number of possible meals for just about any taste. Of course, being located in Eugene, there's even a handful of vegetarian options. Everything I've had so far has been delicious. As far as atmosphere is concerned, you can either have a seat inside at small tables, in one of the booths or belly up at the huge European-pub-styled bar. The outdoor options are no less impressive with smaller and larger group table options; each with a gas heater located close by for those chilly days. There's something unique about how everything is spaced and arranged which fosters a naturally social and friendly atmosphere. There's a wide demographic of people who come here that you just don't see often downtown. I suspect it's Beer Garden's simultaneously gated-yet-open premises that makes it a safe-yet-hip choice for so many different people. And like any quality venue, there's live music and events scheduled year round. In short, if you've got a little bit of time and money to spend out in Eugene, you're not going to find a much worthier place than Beer Garden for food, drink, and...
