Be prepared to pay about $20 a plate. Then be prepared to be very, very, very glad you did.
It is a nicer restaurant, so I'm not sure you'd WANT to bring toddlers or smaller children... they do have a children's menu, don't get me wrong. Momma's blood pressure might not handle it well though, because there's not a lot to keep the kiddo entertained and there is stuff on the table that is breakable, it is a quieter atmosphere, etc. Just from a parent's POV, you'd have to decide if it's something you'd want to do since the restaurant is a cell phone free zone.
We were just there this evening with our 13 year old daughter and our 11 year old son. They were told it was a nicer restaurant and to be on their best behavior. For once, they listened and we got to have a lovely family dinner WITHOUT CELL PHONES and no complaints because the restaurant actually does have a request of no cell phones posted. It was great.
The food was phenomenal. My husband got the jager schnitzel, my 11 year old son got the rainbow trout, and my 13 year old daughter got the steak Madagascar. There is a charge for an extra plate, so, knowing my family, I ordered a side of two potato pancakes, and that got me a plate that I could use because the was NO WAY the kids were going to eat all their food, and I had doubts about my hubby. Besides, it all sounded so good, that way I didn't have to choose. It's a very good thing I didn't, because I honestly couldn't tell you what was my favorite. The steak was so good it made you thankful that God created the cow. The same could be said respectively for the trout and the schnitzel, though, so you couldn't really go wrong. (Yes, the potato pancakes are good too. They just needed a touch of salt.) We did order dessert. We got the apple strudel, explaining to the kids that this was a Czech/German restaurant, so we were not going to get the Tiramisu, no matter how good it sounded, because the strudel would be more culturally correct. Y'all, trust me. You have room for dessert. We still brought home a few left overs, which means we normally wouldn't have ordered it, but... you want to have room for the strudel. Jennifer was our waitress this evening and she was a lovely young lady. She was very attentive and I don't believe any of the drinks were ever empty before we were getting refills. The service was as fantastic as the food. We wouldn't be able to splurge on this often, but my "let's order pizza" teenagers have asked that when we can, we do. Even if it means giving up pizza for a while. Well done...
Read moreHate to write bad reviews, but I dont know what to say. I took my almost 2 year old daughter to Eureka Springs for a vacation after my husband died unexpectedly a few months back. I've visited the city several times and always wanted to eat here, so I finally did. The woman seating people was pretentious and condescending. She. asked how many there was and since the whole lobby was empty except me and her I thought it was odd but I said "just us". She looked incredibly upset. I then said "do you have high chairs" she said "yes" and I saw a stack by the door. This was my way of asking if it was kid friendly. She then looked at my daughter as I was holding her and said "now can you be quiet". Well she's 1 she doesn't really speak English, and wasn't making any noise as we were standing there, so I thought this was odd. I asked the woman "is it ok for her to eat here" she said "well some customers may be offended"... well never mind that I was a customer too but ok. So I asked can we sit in the area by the bar which had no one in it. She said yes and we sat in a corner, which was fine I dont mind solitude. My daughter was quiet the whole time. A party of 10 came in after us and as you can imagine many people can be loud when talking, etc. they weren't overbearing by any means but I could hear them from the other room and wondered why the woman was so concerned with me eating with my daughter and not a large party of people. The waitress was nice but one of the reasons I came here was I thought it'd be better than fast food and I have serious food allergies. I also figured it'd be a bit more expensive and better food and attention if I needed it with allergies and all. The waitress seemed disturbed to answer questions about ingredients In the food. After we left the old woman up front just watched us walk out. I've never been to a restaurant they dont say "thank you for coming" or something like this. It's a restaurant attached to a hotel for crying out loud. It's not a 5 star steak place and really not that expensive or unusual. maybe if they dont want kids, just say "no kids", and dont have high chairs by the door. No kid that requires a high chair is quiet all the time, so if you dont want young kids just make a no kids sign. Dont treat people like trash and act overly concerned a quiet baby will "offend" customers. Probably one of the most embarrassing...
Read moreThe Bavarian Inn gets one star just for ambience, and a second star for having an excellent Wienerschnitzel, but that’s where the stars will end in my review.
To start with when I sat in my booth, which was against the outer wall of a building, my elbow got covered in a cobweb that was in the corner of the booth, which was gross and should’ve been a sign to leave.
My waitress was only dutifully attentive with the exception of putting a dirty knife on the table when I could tell that she saw it was dirty as she was putting it down, and she still left it on the table for me to use and was gone in a flash.
Other than that she was not talkative or informative at all, and at these prices, I would expect a little hospitality and personality from a server, like the waiter behind me was doting on a nice couple, explaining the entire menu in great detail, and how it contrasted with dishes they may have had before, talking to them about where they were from, and what they’ve been doing in town, being very hospitable and personable as you would expect at a nice restaurant.
Another issue is the restaurant policy on not substituting anything. They’re more than happy to sell you an additional seven dollar side of what you do want but absolutely will not substitute it for something you don’t.
When the food came the peas and carrots on the plate looked very fresh and well cooked, and I’m sure someone who likes peas and carrots would like them very much. But these particular peas and carrots went right into the trash, and I left just a little less satisfied which is unfortunate.
I’ll never understand why a restaurant would rather throw unwanted food in the trash than just give a customer what they want.
When the bill came, I was surprised to find that I was charged three dollars for a glass of water.
I have never had a restaurant charge for water, let alone three dollars. It does not say any where on the menu that they charge for a glass of water.
Was charged over $43.00 before tip for a single meal, one beer, appetizer, and glass of water.
I am a fan of German food and had hoped to come back several times to try more things on the menu, but after being charged three dollars for a glass of water, not getting everything I would like to have from a not very personable waitress, I will take my business elsewhere...
