My partner and I were so looking forward to a weekend get away, as we rarely have a weekend off together. We decided to go to Eureka as we are from the Tulsa area and we absolutely adore Eureka Springs. We have stayed several places in Eureka and wanted to try someplace new. I started looking into places and came accross the reviews for Sherwood Ct. The place got wonderful reviews and I book right then and there, and paid the price in full. The closer it got to the weekend the worse the weather was getting in the Tulsa area. I did check the weather in Eureka as well for the weekend and it was stating that there would be flurries with possible ice, pretty much the same as our area. We discussed cancelling our plans for the weekend due to the weather and ultimately decided to cancel. We were both disappointed that we would not be able to keep our plans but felt it was the safest choice. I called Sherwood Ct. 3 days prior to our reservation to cancel. When calling I believe it was a gentleman named Brayn that I spoke with. I told this employee the reason why i was cancelling, he stated that it is in their policy that they require a 10 day notice to be refunded any monies. I hadn't even made the reservation 10 days out I told this man. He stated that he did not have to give me a refund but that he would do it this time. I tried explaining the only reason we were cancelling was due to the inclement weather conditions heading our way. I literally sat on the phone for 10-15 minutes listening to this man give me a lecture on how this is their bread and butter and that we were doing them a great disservice by cancelling, and that Eureka services the roads very well. I ask the man if they serviced the roads all the way back to Tulsa, as this is where we would he driving back to on Sunday. We love Eureka and go as often as we can. I love the community, the environment and all of the quaint shops, B&B's and resteraunt and the all around laid back vibes that come with Eureka. It has now been a week since I called to cancel our reservation, and we have yet to receive a refund. I called Sherwood Ct today to enquire about the refund. Unfortunately I was unlucky enough to get the same gentleman on the phone as I had last week when canceling. Told him I thought I had spoke with him last week and ask for his name several times, which he would not give to me. I told him we spoke the week prior regarding a cancellation and we were still waiting on a refund. He stated that it was great weather in Eureka and that we really missed out and there were several folks there from our area that had no issues getting there or getting home. The gentleman stated that we would receive our money when we got it and then proceeded to hang up on me. I attempted to call back and it went to voice mail. Never have I ever been treated so rudely by any one in the hospitality industry. I can understand that this is peoples bread and butter completely. But I'm sorry if there is bad weather being called for I would certainly hope that a business that is supposed to take care of people and provide a wonderful experience would completely understand this situation. I would certainly hope that people's safety would mean so much more that a weekend booking to a small town business....I would have certainly rebooked with this establishment at a later date if this would not have happened....but now, this is the last place I would ever recommend or stay myself. We ride motorcycles and come to Eureka several times a yr with many of our friends....this is a shame for a business to treat people this way. Appalling is all I can say about the customer service provided by this business...come to find out the gentleman I spoke with on both conversations was actually...
Read moreCompletely honest (and thorough) review, with the positive first:
The whole place is super cute, with a great aesthetic and with nice fire pits for use by guests. We were greeted kindly by the hosts/owners and they took the time to show us to our room and give us a brief tour, which was a thoughtful touch. The room was mostly clean upon arrival, with a lot of little things done right (presentation factors) and a fair amount of kitchen amenities supplied as well (we rented one of the cabins).
Very minor issues: The extra fan supplied in the closet did not work, but we did wait until after our stay to notify them, it wasn't a big deal to us. There was a bit of black mildew around some of the caulking in the shower, which also was no big deal at all, but we mentioned it to the owner after our stay as an FYI. There were some late evening noise issues with other guests staying in the neighboring cabins. Everybody was having a good time and we just turned on our air unit/AC to stay on to drown out the noise, which totally worked. So it wasn't a problem for us really, but still worth a mention.
More noteworthy concerns: When we checked out and texted the host/owner letting them know we enjoyed our stay and that we wanted to let him know about the non-working fan and the mildew issue (which I mistakenly called "black mold") I got a defensive, somewhat uncomfortable reply. They then walked it back and apologized, but noticing now that it's a similar vibe in some of these review replies, it's just something to note for future guests that may have issues. We got several bites around our feet/ankles during our stay here that do not look like mosquito bites. We do not know exactly where the bites came from, but it did seem to happen while we were sleeping. We were concerned enough to take extra cleaning/laundering precautions when we got home. I genuinely have no idea if it was the room we stayed in (cabin #2) or not so I do not want this to come across as accusatory, but if any future guests of this specific cabin notice anything similar, they may want to mention it or take similar precautions.
Overall: We genuinely really enjoyed our stay overall and do not regret it. I was going to leave a 4-star review based on that, but adding everything up, the issues we did have are worth noting and draw it down to a 3-3.5. It's a super cute place and we wish it all the future success, it has a lot of history and charm, which is awesome. But we will likely find elsewhere to stay the next time...
Read moreWe stayed in cottage #6. It was so quaint. It was decorated nicely and had every amenity that we could want. It was small but had sleeping room for 4. The couch makes a bed that is so comfortable, no thin mattress or springs to poke you. The bed itself has an awesome mattress and was so cozy and warm. There were tons of USB plugs and places for charging your electronics. The alarm clock was Bluetooth so you could play your music. The bathroom was a little too small for our liking but it worked out fine. The products, “Bee Kind”, that are stocked in there smelled so nice, worked well and support a great cause. Plenty of towels! The shared back patio area was a nice bonus and the resident raccoon came by every morning. So cute! Patrick, the owner, was always there and always available. He was very nice and told us great places to go eat and things to go see. Check in and check out was easy peasy. The only drawback, for us, was that the parking place at each cottage is for tiny cars only. We drive an SUV. We didn’t fit in the spot. Luckily, no one else was staying in the cottages next to us while we were there so we just parked in the main drive in area in front of our cottage. Otherwise, you would have to park up at the office area and walk down, if you have a large vehicle. Also, our cottage faced and was very close to the main road, so sitting on the private front patio was noisy and you can be seen. The location of the cottages were good. They were not in the middle of the town and they were not too far off from everything either. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again next time...
