My boyfriend and I ordered take out and I came to pick up the food. As soon I came in there was a host that asked how many people for dining and I said no I’m here to pick up food. She then told me oh there’s a door on the other side for pick ups. But you can go sit and they’ll call your name. I said thank you I walked to the area and there was another girl by the pick up service area (looked like she didn’t want to be there) and I had to approach her because all she did was stare at me almost questioning why I was at her register or something lbs and I told her I’m here to pick up my food. She proceeded to question me did you pay already? And I was confused thinking to myself why would I pick up food I didn’t pay for? But I proceeded to explain I ordered online and then she pointed to a different area and told me if I ordered any food online that it would be over there. I still said thank you because it doesn’t hurt to be polite. It was very uncomfortable and it definitely made the food taste distasteful. They need to work on there attitude. On top of it all I ordered the Aztec omelette and the chorizo was burnt in the description it says it comes with avocado and it did NOT come with avocado. Although the experience was terrible I did finish the food (there’s people that don’t have the privilege to eat and I was not gonna waste the food) and I provided pictures...
Read moreWriting a bad review on Father's Day isn't exactly what I envisioned my first Father's Day to be, yet here we are. My folks flew in from overseas to attend my graduation, so my wife made sure to do everything right and make sure we had a table for brunch today. She was told over the phone that the only way to queue up was to use the Google waitlist system, so she did exactly that at 10AM. We received a "successfully joined the Egg Harbor Cafe waitlist" at 10:13. My family was physically present at 10:30, yet we got kicked out of the system at 10:37.
Hostess Sidney insisted that the instructions for physical check-in was part of the text message and talked to my wife condescendingly ("we've been going back and forth about this and it is on the message", and when shown the text message we received: "that's not the original message"). Holy hell we may be internationals, but we're not idiots! And neither are we liars. It doubly sucked that her colleague also said "yeah, sometimes our system does that."
We ended up having to wait for another table to become available and finally seated our party of 7+1 infant at a table for 6. I hoped for a better first Father's Day experience right before heading off to my convocation, but unfortunately, this place...
Read moreI want to start this review by saying that Egg Harbor has been one of my favorite brunch spots in Evanston since it opened. I come here regularly and always look forward to the great food and service. I would give 5 stars, but my recent visit left me disappointed.
One of the things I love about Egg Harbor is the refillable coffee, which I get every time. During my last visit, I had a hard time getting a refill and was charged extra, as if I ordered two coffees. I was surprised because I've never been charged for refills before. When I asked about it, I was told they recently started charging for refills.
Overall, this is a great restaurant, but I feel as though they should communicate better about changes like this, especially when refills are $4 each.
Edit: The situation was resolved. I was given a refund for the misunderstanding and Egg Harbor has continued to have great service, and they have a great coffee refill policy. Will...
